LEI Yu, WANG Yanchao, TONG Dan, ZHONG Yuezhi 1, Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning; 2, Tsinghua University GEIA 2015 Conference Nov 18-20, 2013, Beijing, China CHARACTERISTICS OF EMISSIONS OF AIR POLLUTANTS FROM CHINA'S CEMENT INDUSTRY: HISTORY AND PROSPECT Conclusions: 1.Emissions from China’s cement industry are estimated with a bottom-up approach; 2.Rapid technology transition and stringent emission control requirements changed emission characteristics from cement industry; 3.PM emission remains drop, NO X emission reaches its peak in 2012; 4.Some other 22% NO X emission reduction are expected when new emission standards full implemented; 5.Monthly emission profile developed. Emissions in Jan and Feb are 30% less than other months.

Background: Rapid growth and technology transition in China’s cement industry About 2.4 billion tons of cement produced in China annually, account for 60% of global production Share of clinker from PC kiln increased from 40% to 95% in last decade Cement and clinker produced in China GB4915-2004GB4915-2013* PM5030 NO X 800400 Limit value of the emission standards *GB4915-2013 effective from July 2015 Total Emission Control policy requires the cement industry to install SNCR in kilns since 2012 to reduce NO X emissions

A bottom-up methodology with information from every kilns  Integrated info of kilns collected  Address, capacity, year & month start to work, year & month SNCR installed, NOX removal efficiency  Production of clinkers at provincial level collected on monthly base Addresses and capacity of Kilns

Advanced emission control technologies expanded rapidly PM control technologies in cement industry Ratio of kilns installed with SNCR Estimates of PM 2.5 emissions, compared with MEICEstimates of NO X emissions

NO X emissions will drop Monthly variation of emissions  Another 22% reduction of NO X emissions expected when the new emission standards full implemented  30% less emission in Jan and Feb, compared with other months NO X Emissions before ES implementedNO X Emissions after ES implemented
