2 Life’s Troubles  Old age  Economic hardships  Persecution (1 Pet. 3:14)  Loss of a loved-one (Jn. 11:33)  Negative conduct (Ac. 15:24; 17:8; Gal. 1:7; 5:10)  Lack of understanding (Mt. 14:26; Lk. 1:12,29; 24:38)

3 Life’s Troubles  How do people deal with troubles?  Stoics: refuse to recognize them; despair; suicide  Epicureans: drown your troubles in pleasure; more troubles  Jesus: a divine prescription for peace (Jn. 14:1-4)

4 Jesus Knows Our Troubles  Jesus was troubled (Jn. 11:33; 12:27; 13:21)  Jesus did not want his disciples troubled (Jn. 14:1-4,27) “Stop letting your hearts be troubled…” Judas had left to betray Jesus (13:30) Jesus was leaving (13:33,36) Peter’s denial had been predicted (13:38)

5 Jesus Knows Our Troubles  Jesus’ divine prescription for troubled hearts: “Believe in God … believe in me…” - TRUST “My father’s house…” - HEAVEN “I will come again…” - REUNION “You know the way…” - CERTAINTY

6 Believe in God … in Me  Trust that God / Jesus are in control (Psa. 27:13)  Trust that God / Jesus will aid us (Heb. 4:16)  Trust that God / Jesus will supply us (Rom. 8:32)  Trust that God / Jesus will not forsake us (Heb. 13:5)  Trust that God / Jesus will reward us (Heb. 11:6)

7 My Father’s House  Heaven is prepared for us (Heb. 4:14; 9:24; 6:20; Rev. 21:2)  Heaven is our home, not this world (Phil. 3:20)  Heaven will hold no troubles for us (Rev. 21:3-8,27; 22:15)

8 I Will Come Again  Jesus’ second coming means a reunion for the good (1 Thess. 4:13-17)  Jesus’ second coming means a vindication for the evil (2 Thess. 1:7-9)

9 You Know the Way  Certain we know the way of truth (Jn. 8:32)  Certain we know the way to the Father (Jn. 10:7,9; 11:25; 12:26; 14:6)  Certain we know that we have eternal life (1 Jn. 5:13)

10 Troubled Hearts  Life’s troubles build steadfastness, character, and hope (Rom. 5:3-4)  Troubled hearts can be truly comforted only by these four spiritual realities: Confident trust Heaven’s dwelling-place Jesus’ second coming Certain knowledge of truth
