The people in Sahel The two tribes in Sahel are the Fulani and Dogon people. In the Fulani culture when two people get married the father of the bride will usually give one of his cattle to the groom. But, if not then, the marriage is not official. In the Dogon culture when boys are at the age of 12 they are able to dance in religious rituals like dama.

What people in Sahel eat The people in Sahel eat Groundnut Stew with Chicken This meal is made w/ a lot of vegetables and herbs.

The Animals that live in the Sahel The Animals that live in the Sahel One of the animals that lives in the Sahel is the Zebu. They are a type of cattle Other animals are the giraffes a.k.a “the spotted camel”. There are also, Warthogs. It eats grass and other vegetation. The most common mammal in the Sahel is the Senegal gerbil. It eats seeds and roots.

How much of the Sahel got destroyed……. Sahel has lost 30% of its trees because people have cut down trees for firewood and for grazing land. Without trees rainfall slackens and soil erodes more easily from the wind and water.

The average temp. and rainfall in the Sahel. The average temp. is 77 to 88 degrees. The average rainfall is moderate and the wet season is between June and September.

What happened in the Sahel between 1960 and 1980?....... There was a 20 year-long drought that killed thousands. The Sahel lost 30% of it’s trees because of the drought
