Any Objectives? Confederacy wanted to retake Galveston-main goal Wanted to redeem their pride Would give them more places to settle

Changes during the battle 1862- William B. Renshaw (commodore) demanded the surrender of the island city island commader had no choice and had to surrender The Union blocked off Galveston for four days Galveston remained in Confederate's hands for the remainder of the civil war

The Effects on lives of the Civilians For the families who had loved ones in the war that died, their lives changed drastically The men got the money so many women suffered when the husband died Life was never the same for the ones who were in war The suffered from thousand yard stare or shell shock

Casualties and Troops The union had 650 casualties. In end, 400 men were captured. Destruction of westerfi eld Twenty-six Confederates killed and 117 wounded Lots of troops came to galveston on the Harriet Lane.

Other Key Facts There were two Galveston Battles, the other was on October 4, 1862 The attack was early in the morning Many were killed when a bomb went off to early They took ships called the SSC Harriet Lane The unions then went back to New Orleans
