Training Overview Clearly Set the Purpose: - Humour helps - Visual, auditory, kinesthetic of possible - Give hooks to help remember the purpose: jingle, mnemotic, etc. - Focus on the purpose throughout

Training Overview Follow a plan - Have a suggested outline for yourself - Have visual cues to help the audience - Example: powerpoint, outline - Modify to suit the audience - Watch carefully for attentiveness - Invite and respond to feedback - Be flexible but meet the purpose - Have more than one way ready to make key points - Know which areas may be shortened if necessary

Training Overview Get feedback to evaluate success - Plan ways to gain effective feedback - Time for questions - Oral quiz or ask for restatement - Written feedback - Reteach as necessary to meet the purpose - Have alternative ways to reteach - Examples: group work, spider-web outline, individual restatements, act-it-out, demonstration…

Publish a training schedule: - Be sure everyone who needs training knows the importance of consistency - Provide times to make up for necessary missed class - Note needed supplies while advertising - Clearly state the duration of each class

Present the training Have students evaluate the training - Checklist may help - Remind students of the purpose Have students give the training - Give it to each other - Give it to new trainees

Coach the students - Have them speak to the student informal and formal evaluations - Evaluate according to purpose - Work with student to plan for better presentation next time - Give them time to develop leadership - Sandwich mild criticism with praise Encourage, Encourage, Encourage
