Media Arts Elements and Principles of Design Project By: Reilly Biller, 1 st Block

Color The element used in this picture is color. The color is used in all of the picture from the basketball going into the net. The intentions of using color is to show that it was the Tar heels. The authors purpose was to get peoples attention to recognize that the North Carolina has won five championships in basketball. The purpose of having color go from a basketball into a net is to show success. The total price for this photo was $159. This message matters to me because Unc is my favorite sport team and it shows their achievements. A action that I might take to this picture is to go research some information about the teams that won the National Championships.

Emphasis The principle of designed used in this photo is emphasis. The emphasis of the whole picture is to show the ball going through the net. The intentions of using emphasis is to show the greatness of a basketball program, and to show excitement. The authors purpose was to show the success of North Carolina’s basketball teams. The purpose of using emphasis was to draw people’s attention to the picture. The message being sent from using emphasis is show the accomplishments of North Carolina. A action I might take from this picture is to go outside and play basketball.

Value In this picture it shows the use of value. The value us shown in where some places are darker than others. The intentions of using value in this photo is to show where the waves crash and where the water is rough. The authors purpose in this photo was to show a serious flood destroying a city. The purpose was to show a severe flood that went throughout a city. The advertisement is to show no matter what this company called Banco Financiero will earn you 8.5%. The message matters to me because we live in a area where it floods a lot therefore I have connections with the situation. A action I might take in response to the picture is to buy flood insurance since I live on the coast.Banco Financiero

Movement The principle of design used in this photo is movement. The movement in the picture are the waves crashing, and showing the white caps. The intentions of using movement in this advertisement to cause a motion and to seem hectic in a picture. The authors purpose was to show no matter what this company will always support you regardless of the situation. The message being sent is through all the crazy flooding and water crashing through buildings is this company will stay standing. This message would matter to me because if I was looking for a company to trust than this might be considered one I would invest in.

Space The element of designed used in this photo was space. Space is shown by the water tower looking far away. The intentions of using space in this photo was to show Superman walking away from a city being destroyed. The authors purpose was to show a story behind the super hero to try to get people interested in what happened. Purposely it shows the farther away places being darker and Superman coming to the center of the photo looking bold. This message matters to me by making me wonder what happened to the city, and why Superman is looking serious in the picture. A action I might take to this photograph is to go and see the movie Man Of Steel to find out what happened.

Contrast The principle of design being used in this picture is contrast. The contrast shown in the photo is the gray behind Superman and the bold colors worn by Superman. The intention of using contrast in this photo was to show the different value and color of the city behind Superman and Superman himself in the center of the picture. The authors purpose was to show a hero coming out of a dangerous event but also showing that many bad things happened behind him. The message being sent is to go see this movie because there is a bunch of action throughout it. This message would matter to me because it might encourage me to go see the movie and find out what happens.

Color The element of design used in the photo is color. The color is shown by the billboard being all red and yellow. The intentions of using color in this advertisement is to catch people’s eyes, and get their attention to the food. The authors purpose for this advertisement was to try to get people hungry and to go McDonalds to get food. This message matters to me by making me hungry and telling me a place to go get food at based off the types of food in the picture. An action I might take in response to this photo is go to McDonalds and buy what’s in the billboard ad.

Balance The principle of design being used in the picture is balance. The balance is shown by the lines coming out of the same place. The intentions of using balance is to show it’s all from one place but sell different items. The author’s purpose was to try and get people hungry and want to go to McDonalds. This message matters to me because it shows where to get food if I’m out and is hungry. An action I might take from this advertisement is to go get the coffee and breakfast.

Line The element of design being used in this picture is line. The lines are shown behind the game system through the whole picture. The intention of using line is create a screen like grid image behind the game system. The authors purpose is to use the lines to draw people’s eyes to the gaming device. This message matters to me by showing someone gaming in a grid like setting and seems to be enjoying it. An action I might take to from this photo is to go out and buy this device.

Rhythm The principle of design used in this advertisement rhythm through the photo. The rhythm is shown through the line and the game system itself. The intention of using rhythm is to show a movement and pattern to the picture of the device. The author’s purpose is to try to draw people into getting a Gameboy and showing that they are fun. This message matters to me by telling me if I’m bored and want to game then I should get a Gameboy. An action I might take from this photo is to go out and get a Gameboy to play.
