Filibusters Philip Nolan In 1791 came into Texas to capture wild horses Had permission at first Friendship with U.S. Army commander made Spain suspicious In 1800 was told not to come back March 1801 - was killed by the Spanish

Filibusters James Long Expedition June 1819 (after the Adams-Onis Treaty) Led a group to Nacogdoches Claimed Texas independent from Spain Tried to take over La Bahia/Goliad March 1822, Long was imprisoned in San Antonio Transferred to Mexico City Shot by a prison guard April 8, 1822
