3 Starting a Program   By default, the dock is a glossy ribbon open and located at the bottom of the computer screen contains icons, but can be moved or hidden   Icons: small images that represent programs, folders, files and the trash   The purpose of the dock is to give you a quick and easy access to the most frequently used items on your computer Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Illustrated

4 Starting a Program   The dock is divided into two areas by a vertical dashed line ― ― programs appear of the left side of the dashed line ― ― folders, files and the Trash appear on the right   To open a program, simply click the program’s icon the on the dock ― ― once a program is opened the view of the program window can be adjusted using the scroll bars located on the right side or bottom of the window Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Illustrated

6 Starting a Program Not Found on the Dock   To start a program that is loaded on the computer but not on the dock, click the Finder icon on the dock to open the Finder window   Click the Applications in the Sidebar (the left side of the Finder window), locate the desired program to use on the right side of the Finder window, then double- click the program to open it   To save time in the future, drag the program icon from the Finder window to the desired location on the dock Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Illustrated

9 Moving and Resizing Windows   Each program starts in its own window   Opening more than one window is multi- tasking-performing several tasks at the same time-and each program appears in a different window   When multitasking, moving and resizing windows becomes necessary so that more of one window or two or more windows can be viewed at the same time ― ― use the window control button to Minimize (or by double clicking its title bar) and Zoom in the upper left corner of the window Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Illustrated

10 Moving and Resizing Windows   To adjust a window’s height or width (or both), drag the size control locate on the lower-right corner of the window ― ― to move a window, drag its title bar-the area across the top of the window that displays the window name or program name ― ― the active window is the window that is currently being used ― ― an inactive window is another open window not currently in use Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Illustrated
