Key Strategy for recruitment & retention of quality teachers and administrators Required for “No Child Left Behind” NH ED 512 -Recertification State & Local commitment to quality teaching & student learning HQPD improved student learning

4 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Why Professional Development Center Network? equitable and convenient PD access PD coordination and collaboration quick access to information about PD opportunities more efficient & effective use of funds stronger educator learning networks

5 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Vision: Statewide Professional Development Center Network 10 Centers --94% of NH school districts within a 30-mile radius of at least 1 professional development center The remaining 6% (located in the northern portion of the state) would be within a 50 mile radius of the nearest professional development center

6 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Professional Development Centers Provide content workshops, courses, study groups, action research, on-going follow-up support for schools’/districts’ improvement plans physical space access to current technology assistance to “schools in need of improvement” (NCLB) methods for assessing the impact of PD web presence

7 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Governance, Management, and Staffing State Level State Coordinator Statewide Collaborative Council Center Level Site Coordinator Advisory Board Consultants Master Teachers & Leaders Granite State Network Staff Clerical Staff Others as needed and appropriate to area need

8 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Implementation Plan? Initiate through the NH DOE Technology Plan July 1, 2003--Up to 4 Centers July 1, 2004--Up to 7 Centers July 1, 2005--Up to 10 Centers Funding for Professional Development Federal and state grants & entitlements Grants from private foundations Local professional development funds (NCLB, IDEA, etc) Funding for State PD Coordinator Addition to DOE Budget--Estimated $150,000 salary & benefits

9 Ensuring access for all educators to high quality professional development that results in improved student learning. l Benefits? more equitable access for all educators to HQPD localized support for school improvement statewide and regional info on PD opportunities reduced costs to districts more effective & efficient use of funds improved leadership, teaching, and student learning
