Simple Enough How many of you have ever murdered someone? Then I guess this is a bye week. Piece of cake, commandment #6 – checked off as good Not so fast – Matthew 5:21-26 Jesus is not only addressing the act of murder, but the heart behind it

Let’s break it down Anger without a cause (heart murder) Raca! – You empty person who is not as good as me You Fool – You person not deserving of or capable of love

The hierarchy of a death sentence For committing a crime punishable by death, the judge would determine the appropriate death sentence Beheading – simple judgement Stoning – determined by the counsel Burned – For rash, uncontrolled anger in the valley of Hinnom – the greatest damnation

Let’s apply this Most conflict All gossip, backbiting, tearing down of others Those all judge someone else’s heart, we can declare them “beneath us”, or worst of all, we can judge them as unacceptable to God. Simple filter – if you are speaking about someone who is not there – it is time to shut up.

Thou Shall Not Kill That includes critical comments pointed at character assassination That includes speaking down at someone else for not doing something your way or judging them as not deserving of grace That can culminate in a self righteous declaration of someone else’s standing with God. HOW DARE WE!

THANK YOU JESUS Our country can obsess over everyone else Gossip, whispering behind others backs, or talking ill of anyone is out of line for a Christian Can we agree……and pray?
