8. 400’s AD Priest Patrick spread Christianity in Ireland. Pope Gregory I Spread Christianity. Gregory asked Monks to become Missionaries. 597 Gregory sends 40 Monks to Britain.

10. Monks / Nuns provided schools and hospitals. Monks copied the Roman and Greek works. Preserved Classical Knowledge. Monks lived in abbots, Nuns in convents.

11. Monasteries became wealthy, active in political affairs. King wanted the Pope to obey them, Pope wanted the King to obey the church. 1073 Gregory VII - declared only the Pope could Appoint Church Officials. Excommunicated Henry. King Henry IV angry. German Nobles select a new King. Henry seized Rome and named a new Pope. 1122 Concordat of Worms. Agreement –Pope / Ruler.
