3  Pick a good time to visit-not a busy time  Be prepared with resume and pen  Don’t just ask the 1 st person you visit.  Ask questions about the company  Dress for the part of the job you may want  Quantity is important  Important to put a face to the resume

4  Use people that you know to help with a job  75% of jobs are found this way  Family, friends, and people who know you  Contact people through social media sites

5  Use proper resume format  Watch for privacy issues in filling out applications  Do not just rely on the internet  Use selected areas to post information on  Be patient and persistent  Do no use current employer to do searching  Do not rely on email as the only contact information  Email address should be appropriate

6  People who call and recruit you to work for for another company  Can be relentless  Can make grandiouse promises

7  Work part-time for an agency that can lead to a permanent job  Can lead to contacts at other companies as well which can lead to a job

8  A job that helps train you while in school can lead to a permanent position  Performance and knowledge can help  Good work skills displayed

9  Contact a company through HR Dept.  Contact by sending a letter  Ask for help in finding a job  Look at openings at a specific company  Look up using information to find companies that are in your area

10  School sponsored job fairs  Teacher Fairs  Career Centers for students

11  Skip Human Resource dept and to the department direct  Cater resume to job  Target a specific company after intense research  Look at unqiue career opportunities  Look at careers that are not gender equal

12  Chronological-put everything in date order  Most commonly used  Good for steadily employed people  Expected  Avoid if: gaps in employment, no experience, negative information, changing career paths  Functional-organizes work into categories past job responsibilities and job titles usuasally 5-6 areas.

13  Must fit one page  Easy to read  Eye Catching manner  Stick with the normal format  Use bold, italics, and font to get attention  Classic Paper Choice  Watch grammatical errors and typos  Don’t mix and match fonts  Use truthful information

14  Contact Information  Name (not all caps, bold and larger font)  Address  Phone (day and evening)  Cell Phone  Email address  College address and information First item on resume Make easy to read and find

15  Sentence-that shows how you will fit the job that is available.  Customize to each job that you are applying for.  Highlight how you will help the company  Use buzz works and descriptors that will help you get an interview
