Recap on Year 6 Expectations UNIFORM Thank you for your support so far, children look very smart! Black trousers or skirt White shirt or polo shirt Black shoes – lots of children in trainers Minimum jewellery New PE t-shirts available

Year 6 SATs SATs week is the week beginning 9 th May 2014 There is no Writing Test this year. Writing will be teacher assessed from the work they produce in class DayTest Mon 9 th Reading test Tue 10 th English Grammar & Punctuation English Spelling Wed 11 th Paper 1 – Mental Arithmetic Paper 2 – Reasoning Thurs 12 th Paper 3 – Reasoning Fri 13 th No paper -

Boosting sessions We have a big push on Maths and Literacy this term in preparation for SATs Some children who have been identified to need boosting (based on assessments) will be withdrawn from class in the afternoons to have a booster session Booster sessions will be in either Maths, Reading or Writing These are similar to the after school booster sessions

Secondary School Transfer Update Not long to wait now! LA will send a letter out to you early March, informing you of what school your child will be attending. Online applicants will be sent an email.

Homework With the run up to SATs, children may be given additional homework for this too.

PE Each class has 1 PE sessions a week Please ensure you child comes to school with the correct PE uniform on their correct day: A reminder of the correct kit: White t-shirt or purple Cranford t - shirt Black shorts Black tracksuit bottoms for games Plimsolls or trainers ClassPE days MagentaThursday SapphireThursday AzureThursday

Literacy this term (6 weeks) We will be covering the following units in Literacy this term: Poetry (fiction) Narrative – Stories with Flashback (fiction) Journalistic Writing Regular half termly assessments Also a focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar

Reading Your child should be reading with you daily Please encourage children to read a range of texts (e.g. stories, newspapers, magazines, comics, recipes, etc) It is important that children get the opportunity to discuss their reading with someone at home to develop their comprehension skills Things that you could discuss with your child are: The type of text they are reading Key features of the text Authors’ choice of language Punctuation If a story – main character, plot, etc

Reading – Bug Club To help support their comprehension skills, we have bought into a service called ‘BugClub’ www.bugclub.co.uk A pupil will demonstrate some of the activities they do on Bug Club

Maths this term (6 weeks) We will be covering some of the following topics in Maths this term: Big focus on Number work Data Handling Shape & Space Measure Using & Applying Problem solving Mental maths

Other curriculum subjects We will be covering the following topics this term: Geography – Rivers Science –Habitats and Living things Art – River Reflections ICT will be taught throughout the subjects.
