Artworks that SUPPORT… Rituals Ceremonies Celebrations The artwork itself serves a PURPOSE in the actual ceremony. An artwork is classified as ceremonial when the ceremony would not be complete without the artwork.

Examples of ceremonial art: Sand MandalaMandala Henna Tattoos Mehndi tattoos are adorned on the brides body in preparation for a Hindu wedding.

Just an artwork that depicts a religious scene. Remember, ceremonial art SUPPORTS ceremonies. Leonardo daVinci, The Last Supper, 1495-98 The Last Supper by daVinci is NOT a ceremonial artwork. Although the work itself depicts a religious ceremony you do NOT need to view this artwork in order to partake in communion or the Lord’s Supper.
