9 UNIT CALL SIGN A unit call sign consists of a (L-N-L): LetterNumber Letter N 2 F

10 A suffix is a two digit number which represents a position in a unit. SUFFIX 28

11 EXPANDER An expander represents a driver/radio telephone operator, enlisted assistant, aide, etc… B

12 FULL CALL SIGN Unit Position Expander N2F 28 B There are only two times a full call sign will be used: a)When directed by the net control station (NCS) b)When operating in an unfamiliar net.

13 ABBREVIATED CALL SIGN (1 OF2) To abbreviate or shorten, a full call sign, you should eliminate the first two characters of the full call sign. N2F 28B F28B

14 ABBREVIATED CALL SIGN Use abbreviated call signs: To shorten transmission time While operating in a familiar net

15 TWO TYPES OF NETS DIRECTED-NET You must obtain permission from NCS to transmit. FREE-NET NCS will authorize net member stations to transmit traffic to other stations in the net without obtaining permission from NCS.
