My Art Portraiture Unit Portfolio Presentation Loi L. Nguyen

Unit Summary It is time for creative problem solving! Each student is going to compose a portraiture consisted of representative items/objects that represent himself/herself. Objects must represent ideas about the world and are something positive. Each portraiture is personal that includes but not limited to identity, determination, and struggle. It can foretell the students’ life five, ten, or twenty years from now. Presentation is going to happen at the end; therefore, a concoction of cultures and tales of lives can be experienced visually.

Unit Objectives Students will focus on the following skills: Critical thinking – Students use reasoning, making decisions, and formulating information when composing their portraiture. Creative problem solving – Students setup information, absorb new information, and analyze given information. Reasoning – Students explain and interpret undertaken choices they make in their arts. Communication – Students give presentation and precise delivering of messages.

Target Content Standards 1.0 Artistic Perception – Students analyze, process and respond to works of art, nature, etc. 2.0 Creative Expression – Student create, perform, and participate in visual art through works, skills, and tools. 4.0 Aesthetic Valuing – Students respond to judgments about their art works. 5.0 Connection, Relations, Applications – Students learn to apply to life what they learn from communication and problem solving in art.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question –What can we learn from art? Unit Question –How does art make us find our artistic perceptions about ourselves? Content Question –What are some of the artistic patterns we see everyday at home?

21th Century Skill Students will learn in this project about: –Critical thinking and problem solving Ability to address projects’ prompt –Flexibility and adaptation Ability to learn from mistakes –Social and Cross-Cultural skills Learn from others –Information Literacy Acquire information about art history and artists

Gauging Student Needs Assessment Use graphic organizer to gather organized information that students are going to incorporate in their drawings. Use KWL to know organized steps students take to do their portraiture and what they learn from it. Use brainstorming to know how students organized their information and to promote higher-ordered thinking and to see steps of individual problem- solving skill.

Why Project? To promote critical thinking. Address 21th century skills. Focus on content standards of 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 5.0 To find ways to get my students to enjoy art. To have my students self explore.

Why Project Cont’d To see how students will solve problems, and use what for help. Find ways to get students to use higher-order thinking To have students incorporate technology into their art works. To suggest sharing. To spread the diversity of the world and many cultures.

Project Results Students should above to creatively solve problems that are presented. Students should able to incorporate the listed 21th century skills. Students should able to incorporate history as part of their learning. Students should be able to communicate more effective in many means.
