Ancient Egyptian architecture! Hello and welcome to our Ancient Egyptian architecture quiz! First we will show you some information about our subject – try and remember as much as you can for the quiz that follows.

This is a typical Egyptian villa.it would have a central room, a garden, stables, bedrooms, storage and a pool. These are typical town houses. They were built high and close together because space was hard to come by. Homes- differences & similarities

This is the stable. As well as finding horses there you might find a donkey, a camel or even a chariot! Normally villas have a pool in the courtyard. It would be partly surrounded by shady palms. This was the best way to keep cool in the burning midday sun. Cooking would be done on the roof so as not to make the house hot, stuffy and smoky. On all houses the walls were painted white, however, because they were built out of bricks made of mud and straw it came out cream with golden-brown splodges, a bit like the ones you would find on damp wallpaper. The roofs were flat on all houses: this is because they didn’t need to be sloped as it hardly ever rained.

A bit bigger….. Each one of these pyramids was built for a different pharaoh: Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. The middle one belonged to Khufu. Did you know? The three pyramids of Giza lie directly beneath three stars- the pharaohs ‘’portal’’ to the after-life. Giza Pyramids!

Super Structures Glorious Giza! Did you know that the centre pyramid, [Khufu's], is the largest. Standing at an amazing height of 140m it’s taller than 24 giraffes.
