The Purposes of Subject Guides 1.Originally, used as a catalog to present what had been published by a publisher or what had been collected by a personal library back in 17 century when printing was invented 2.Later on, more focus was put on the works published by a specific author 3.Libraries created subject bibliography to highlight titles in various formats available in the collection and pertinent to a specific subject 4.Used as study guides to guide users in conducting research on specific topics

Impact on Subject Guide Services A Web 2.0 production platform will become a standard tool for librarians to deliver subject guide service effectively (Web 2.0 平台将会成为图书管员必要的工具 ) With a 2.0 production platform, subject guides can be created at the point of need ( 随时需要随时创作出版 ) Web 2.0 makes collaborative production of subject guides much easier, especially for Reference Department ( 资询部门分工合作很容易 ) Many types of subject guides emerged ( 出现 ): course guide, course assignment guide, research assignment guide, study guide, online tutorial guide, etc.

Impact on Librarianship Brings new opportunities to expand ( 扩充 ) librarians’ role, especially to liaison librarians ( 馆系间图书管员 ) Liaison librarians can use this tool to document and preserve departmental scholarly related activities However, Usage dictates the success of the subject guide service Faculty-librarian collaboration is the key to success In conclusion, outreach, collaboration, and open- mindness are the keys to a prosperous future of librarianship
