8 th Grade Week 20 Agenda & Objectives 1/14/13-1/18/13 Monday: Review Tuesday & Wednesday: Final! Thursday: Make up/Corrections Friday: Diary of Anne Frank or Free Day?

Daily Writing: Goals 1/14/13 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: “Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal.” ~Unknown What are your goals for quarter 3? Explain them in DETAIL and explain who is going to help you and how you’re going to help yourself.

Monday: Review Slide: 1/3 I want to apologize to the students who HAVE been doing their work. I’ve got some extra rewards in store for you this week to show my appreciation. I also have seen a very positive change in some of you, but it’s still a little random. You need to consistently do your work in order to do well in school.

Monday: Review Slide: 2/3 Final tomorrow! It’s in your best interest to be here ON TIME for the final. You may be able to make corrections on Thursday. If you’re not here, Thursday is your make up day and you WON’T be able to make corrections. Show me your final study guide for your HW points. Hand it in before you take the final to get your extra credit. Planner : Study for FINAL Late work? No later than Friday.

Monday: Review 3/3 1.Crossword puzzle (are you sick of these yet??) 3 minutes: NO RESOURCES. 5 minutes: Use your resources! THESE ARE THE VOCAB WORDS ON YOUR FINAL! STUDY! 2.Play Jeopardy. These are test questions! 3.Rewrite the words on the crossword puzzle on a separate piece of paper. Next to the word & definition, draw an illustration/picture that relates to the word.

Daily Writing: STUDY 1/15 or 1/16 Write down anything and EVERYTHING you remember about what you studied. KEEP WRITING! Try not to use your notes or study guide.

Tuesday & Wednesday: Finals Slide 1/4 Before we start, let’s do some breathing/stretching exercises! Test! No talking! When you’re done, RAISE YOUR HAND! If I don’t have to ask anyone to stop talking, keep their eyes on their test, sit down, or to say on task during the final, I will give you TEN fuzzy balls! After I’ve collected your test: Work on late work Read Study for a different final. Do anything school related, but please do so QUIETLY! No talking! No getting up (raise your hand)! NO sleeping or electronics! GOOD LUCK! You got this.

Tuesday & Wednesday: Finals Slide 2/4 Present bonuses If being a student is your job, then your grade is your pay. In some professions the highest achiever gets a bonus. Thank you to those of you who had a successful semester 1! KEEP IT UP!

Tuesday & Wednesday: Finals Slide: 3/4 Stellar Students NOT missing anything: If you think you did well on the final, for the rest of the period you are FREE to do what you wish! Just stay on your side of the room and read silently or work on homework. If you talk, please do so quietly. If you think you did poorly, follow the directions on the next slide…

Tuesday & Wednesday: Finals Slide 4/4 All other students: NO TALKING! USE YOUR TIME WISELY! Make a 1-page study guide based on what you think you got wrong. I will allow you to make corrections to your test for 1/2 credit on Thurs. and you’ll be able to use the study guide you turn in today. I will be collecting these at the end of the period and giving them back to you on Thurs. Put your name on it! You will NOT be able to use someone else’s study guide or any other study guide you bring in. You will ONLY be able to use the study guide that I collect from you today. If you aren’t using your time wisely, I’ll take your study guide away and that will be your only resource to make corrections. Absent students will not be able to make corrections.

Daily Writing: Homework 1/17/13 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: What would you do if you were at home and your homework was at school? How much time a night do you spend on homework? How much time do you think you should spend to be successful? Is there a gap? Why? Tell me why you think teachers assign homework.

Thursday: Make up/Test Corrections 1/4 8A AND 8B: filled their jar! FUN FRIDAY! Good news! You may bring in food to share. However, I have some food rules! Take a survey on ME. I’ll leave the room for 3-5 minutes. DO NOT put your name on it (anonymous). Read each statement and circle the appropriate number according to your agreement level. Respond to the questions. Write neatly, please! Please be HONEST and also constructive. “This class is boring” or “I hate reading” is not constructive. Who will volunteer to collect the surveys and open the door for me after a few minutes?

Thursday: Make up/Test Corrections 2/4 If you were absent, you’ll leave and go to the resource room and take the final now. You won’t be able to make corrections later. If you already took it, you’ll make corrections to the questions you got wrong.

Thursday: Test Corrections 3/4 20 minutes: Corrections! Write your corrections next to it and HIGHLIGHT the number so I know to check it again. If it’s short answer, write your corrections on a separate piece of paper but make sure to label it and make sure you put your name on the paper. For each question you get correct, you will receive ½ credit. Can’t make corrections to Punctuation section (too messy). NO TALKING! Just like a normal test, I will take points off if you talk or your eyes wander. Raise your hand and I’ll collect it when you’re done. After I’ve collected your test work on late work or read silently.

Thursday: Test Corrections 4/4 Pens & highlighters DOWN! No more making corrections… If I see you correcting, I will not honor your corrections. Let’s go through & discuss the answers… Questions? Give me back your test! After I correct the corrections, I will give it back to you and you should KEEP IT! Some of these same vocab & concepts will be on the Q4 final test. You may throw all other quizzes and tests away.

Daily Writing: Vacation 1/18/13 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: “Laughter is an instant vacation.” ~Milton Berle My worst/best vacation was…

Friday: Free day? Food rules: When I say 5 minute clean up, START CLEANING UP!!! No one leaves until my room is CLEAN. No candy or food in other classes or locker! If there are leftovers, I will label it and you can pick it up after school. Don’t forget or I will throw it away. If I find garbage anywhere besides the garbage can (inside the desks, in the vents, on the floor, etc.), I will never allow food again. If you throw anything, EVERYONE has to throw their food away and I will ask your parents to come pick you up after school sometime next week so you can clean my room top to bottom.

Late Homework I recorded all late work I have received since check ins last week and I still don’t have everything.  It turns to a zero at 3:00 today!!! Students with late work: Go to the resource room until you get it done. Come back to the fun and games when you have your late homework to give to me!

Friday: Free day or Anne Frank? Games: Celebrity guessing game. Everyone has a post-it note with a name of a celebrity on his/her head. You will not know the celebrity on your post-it. Do NOT look at it! Walk around the room and ask each person ONE yes/no question to try and determine the celebrity on your post-it. The first person who guesses, wins! Anyone want to make a post-it note for my head? 7-up? Pictionary/charades? Hot seat?
