30
30 FIRST READING R: The first reading for the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost is written in chapter thirty one of Jeremiah beginning at verse twenty seven. Jeremiah 31:27-34 CEV The Lord's new covenant.
31
31 Jeremiah 31:27-34 R: 27 Someday, Israel and Judah will be my field where my people and their livestock will grow. 28 In the past, I took care to uproot them, to tear them down, and to destroy them. But when that day comes, I will take care to plant them and help them grow.
32
32 Jeremiah 31:27-34 29 No longer will anyone go around saying, "Sour grapes eaten by parents leave a sour taste in the mouths of their children." 30 When that day comes, only those who eat sour grapes will get the sour taste, and only those who sin will be put to death.
33
33 Jeremiah 31:27-34 31 The LORD said: The time will surely come when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and Judah. 32 It will be different from the agreement I made with their ancestors when I led them out of Egypt. Although I was their God, they broke that agreement.
34
34 Jeremiah 31:27-34 33 Here is the new agreement that I, the LORD, will make with the people of Israel: "I will write my laws on their hearts and minds. I will be their God, and they will be my people. “
35
35 Jeremiah 31:27-34 No longer will they have to teach one another to obey me. I, the LORD, promise that all of them will obey me, ordinary people and rulers alike. I will forgive their sins and forget the evil things they have done." This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.
36
36 Psalm 119:97-104 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 119 97 I deeply love your Law! I think about it all day. C: 98 Your laws never leave my mind, and they make me much wiser than my enemies.
37
37 Psalm 119:97-104 CEV R: 99 Thinking about your teachings gives me better understanding than my teachers, C: 100 and obeying your laws makes me wiser than those who have lived a long time.
38
38 Psalm 119:97-104 CEV R: 101 I obey your word instead of following a way that leads to trouble. C: 102 You have been my teacher, and I won't reject your instructions.
39
39 Psalm 119:97-104 CEV R: 103 Your teachings are sweeter than honey. C: 104 They give me understanding and make me hate all lies C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen.
40
40 Second reading R: The second reading is written in chapter three and four of 2 nd Timothy, beginning at verse fourteen. 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 CEV Responsibilities of the pastor
41
41 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 R: 14 Keep on being faithful to what you were taught and to what you believed. After all, you know who taught you these things. 15 Since childhood, you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to make you wise enough to have faith in Christ Jesus and be saved.
42
42 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 16 Everything in the Scriptures is God's Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live. 17 The Scriptures train God's servants to do all kinds of good deeds. When Christ Jesus comes as king, he will be the judge of everyone, whether they are living or dead.
43
43 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 So with God and Christ as witnesses, I command you 2 to preach God's message. Do it willingly, even if it isn't the popular thing to do. You must correct people and point out their sins. But also cheer them up, and when you instruct them, always be patient.
44
44 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 3 The time is coming when people won't listen to good teaching. Instead, they will look for teachers who will please them by telling them only what they are itching to hear. 4 They will turn from the truth and eagerly listen to senseless stories.
45
45 2 Timothy 3:14 - 4:5 5 But you must stay calm and be willing to suffer. You must work hard to tell the good news and to do your job well This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.
46
46 Alleluia, alleluia. God will grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night. Alleluia. (Luke 18:7 NRSV alt)
47
GOSPEL L: The Holy Gospel is written in chapter eighteen of the Gospel according to St Luke beginning at verse one. C: Glory be to you, O Lord. Luke 18:1-8 CEV Parable of the widow and the judge 47
48
Luke 18:1-8 L: Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should keep on praying and never give up: 2 In a town there was once a judge who didn't fear God or care about people. 3 In that same town there was a widow who kept going to the judge and saying, "Make sure that I get fair treatment in court.” 48
49
Luke 18:1-8 4 For a while the judge refused to do anything. Finally, he said to himself, "Even though I don't fear God or care about people, 5 I will help this widow because she keeps on bothering me. If I don't help her, she will wear me out.” 49
50
Luke 18:1-8 6 The Lord said: Think about what that crooked judge said. 7 Won't God protect his chosen ones who pray to him day and night? Won't he be concerned for them? 8 He will surely hurry and help them. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith? This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to You O Christ.
51
L: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for encouraging us to pray. Help us to persist in prayer, knowing that God wants what is good for us. C: Amen. 51
52
52 hymn We sing: Speak forth Your Word, O Father, LH269CAL 293 Charles Jefferies, 1964
53
53 Speak forth Your Word, O Father, 1. Speak forth Your Word, O Father, Men’s hungry minds to feed: The people starve and perish, Unconscious of their need; For so, Lord, You have made us That not alone by bread, But by Your Word of comfort Our hunger must be fed.
54
54 Speak forth Your Word, O Father, 2. The secrets of the atom, The universe of light, All wonders of creation Proclaim Your boundless might: But only through the witness From man to man passed on Do You reveal in fullness The gospel of Your Son.
55
55 Speak forth Your Word, O Father, 3. Yet, mid the noisy tumult Of envy, greed and strife, How faint and few the voices That breathe the Word of life! How shall men hear its message If there be none to preach? How shall they learn its lesson If there be none to teach?
56
56 Speak forth Your Word, O Father, 4. Take us, then, Lord, and use us Your messengers to be: Our prayers, our gifts, our service We offer here to You, That every man and nation May learn what we have heard, And all the minds of millions Shall feed upon Your Word. †

75 Hymn We sing : Thy hand, O God, has guided LHS 194CAL293 Edward Hayes Plumptre (1821-1891)
76
76 Thy hand, O God, has guided 1. Thy hand, O God, has guided Thy flock, from age to age; The wondrous tale is written, Full clear, on every page; Our fathers owned Thy goodness, And we their deeds record; And both of this bear witness: ‘One Church, one faith, one Lord.’
77
77 Thy hand, O God, has guided 2. Thy heralds brought glad tidings To greatest, as to least; They bade men rise, and hasten To share the great king’s feast; And this was all their teaching, In every deed and word, To all alike proclaiming ‘One Church, one faith, one Lord.’
78
78 Thy hand, O God, has guided 3. And we, shall we be faithless? Shall hearts fail, hands hand down? Shall we evade the conflict, And cast away our crown? Not so; in God’s deep counsels Some better thing is stored; We will maintain, unflinching, ‘One Church, one faith, one Lord.’
79
79 Thy hand, O God, has guided 4. Thy mercy will not fail us, Nor leave Thy work undone; With Thy right hand to help us, The victory shall be won; And then by men and angels Thy name shall be adored, And this shall be their anthem: ‘One Church, one faith, one Lord.’ †
