Home Base Overview/Orientation May 20, 2013

What is Home Base and what will it do? Every user will have one password to enter only one time to access resources and tools. Home Base is an online tool for teaching and learning.

Why Home Base? Improving teacher effectiveness by providing tools aligned to NC’s Standard Course of Study that promote efficiency by connecting grade books, lessons, instructional resources, and assessments Ensuring daily parent access to student grades and assignments Providing time saving tools that give ongoing data, results, and recommendations to teachers and students

Instructional Improvement System (IIS) Student Information System (SIS) Tools for Information and Data Tools for Teaching and Learning Home Base is One Technology Platform with two key functions:

Assessment Student Information and Learner Profile Instructional Design, Practice & Resources Data Analysis and Reporting Information a simpler, better information system to replace NC WISE Integrated Instructional Solution a new standards-aligned tool for instruction, assessment and data analysis Effectiveness a simpler, better online evaluation system and new professional development system InformationInstruction Educator Effectiveness: Evaluation and Professional Development Test Nav Summative Assessment OpenClass Collaboration Schoolnet Instructional Tools and Assessment PowerSchool Student Information Truenorthlogic Evaluation and PD Student Information System (SIS) Instructional Improvement System (IIS)

Student Information System

Student Information & Learner Profile Teachers takes attendance, enters grades, checks students’ performance Nurse checks immunizations and tracks daily medications Counselor discusses performance with parents, reviews graduation goals with student Superintendent views PMR and reports on demographics, dropout rates and appropriates funding Principal reviews disciplinary action while discussing with parents Teachers takes attendance, enters grades, checks students’ performance Nurse checks immunizations and tracks daily medications Counselor discusses performance with parents, reviews graduation goals with student Superintendent views PMR and reports on demographics, dropout rates and appropriates funding Principal reviews disciplinary action while discussing with parents

Sample Mathematics Resources Summary: This site comprises six lesson activities including the definition of a fraction, equivalent fractions, addition of fractions, and multiplication of fractions. Students may respond online to get immediate feedback, or they can work the examples on grid paper. Who Wants Pizza? 40 STEM Resources (Science, Technology, Engineering, &Mathematics) Faucet Flow Rate Students conduct experiments to determine the flow rate of faucets by timing how long it takes to fill gallon jugs. They do this for three different faucet flow levels (quarter blast, half blast, full blast), averaging three trials for each level. Standards: –CCSS.Math.Content.8.SP.A.1 –CCSS.Math.Content.8.SP.A.2 –NCES.8.E.1.4 Marble Ride In this STEM lesson plan students design a roller coaster ride for a marble with the goal of having it travel as slow as possible.
