2
What is Home Base and what will it do? Every user will have one password to enter only one time to access resources and tools. Home Base is an online tool for teaching and learning.
3
Why Home Base? Improving teacher effectiveness by providing tools aligned to NC’s Standard Course of Study that promote efficiency by connecting grade books, lessons, instructional resources, and assessments Ensuring daily parent access to student grades and assignments Providing time saving tools that give ongoing data, results, and recommendations to teachers and students
4

Sample Mathematics Resources Summary: This site comprises six lesson activities including the definition of a fraction, equivalent fractions, addition of fractions, and multiplication of fractions. Students may respond online to get immediate feedback, or they can work the examples on grid paper. Who Wants Pizza? STEM Resources (Science, Technology, Engineering, &Mathematics) Faucet Flow Rate Students conduct experiments to determine the flow rate of faucets by timing how long it takes to fill gallon jugs. They do this for three different faucet flow levels (quarter blast, half blast, full blast), averaging three trials for each level. Standards: –CCSS.Math.Content.8.SP.A.1 –CCSS.Math.Content.8.SP.A.2 –NCES.8.E.1.4 Marble Ride In this STEM lesson plan students design a roller coaster ride for a marble with the goal of having it travel as slow as possible. How will Home Base be rolled out? Home Base will be available to districts without costs for the 2013-14 school year. Home Base will be phased-in with many key functions available at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. 2013-14 year will be a kick-off year; we expect it to take districts time to learn and apply the resources in Home Base
