2. The Orange Grove uses several tools to organize content and to control access to content. The repository structure is guided by the tools provided within the Equella software used by The Orange Grove

3. Roles and Groups Groups – each individual user is placed into a group. Groups are associated with roles. Roles – are set up at a high level. Roles can be associated with a particular group or another role. Individuals are never assigned to a role. –System Administrator –Collection Administrator –Collection/OG Contributor –Collection/OG Searcher Users receive permissions and access based on their assigned group and its associated roles

System Administrator Collection Administrator Searcher permission Contributor permission - plus – Administrative permission (e.g. archive items) Contributor Searcher permission - plus - Can contribute items to repository Searcher Can search for and link to or download resources Orange Grove user types from fewest permissions to most permissions

6. Control by individual resource When an individual resource is contributed, the contributor is able to set the level of access permitted to that item. –Public – anyone who comes into the repository, including guest users, can access the item –Only Florida educator/users can access the item –Only members of an institution’s collection can access the item.

7. Institutional Resource Only visible to users from that institution Florida-only Resource Only visible to Florida users Public Resource Can be viewed by any OG user (including guest) Orange Grove resource types from most open to most restrictive

8. Individual institutional collections are created, if an institution agrees to: Provide an administrator to manage the collection Adhere to the required Orange Grove metadata fields; they may choose to add additional fields if desired Quality-control items in their collection to ensure accuracy.

Advantages to institution –Can choose to limit access to some items to their institutional members –Can set up their own workflow and moderators and modify their metadata scheme Advantages to The Orange Grove –Management and quality-control is decentralized –Institutions “own” more of the process and can meet individual institutional needs
