2 Health and Physical Education The elementary H&PE Curriculum is an ever changing document that we review on an ongoing basis and at least once per year.

3 Considerations: 1.Align with the PA State Standards for Health, Physical Education and Safety

4 Considerations: 2.More user friendly! 3.Provide more detail and better clarity 4.Incorporate latest research, best practices and current trends

5 Standards-referenced as opposed to Standards-based

6 We used the Curriculum Framework from the Standards Aligned System on PDE’s website to help us align the curriculum to the standards.

12 Health Grades 3, 4 & 5 Coordination with elementary science curriculum eliminates overlaps. We have created our own packets that are revised yearly. Sample Notebook – Grade 3

13 W here are we going from here? 1.Consider addition types of assessments 2.Incorporate more brain-based learning activities (80% of students are kinesthetic learners) 3.Process of moving from skill-based fitness testing to health-related fitness testing 4.Align our curriculum so it provides for continuity as Skyview prepares to open 5.Shooting a video for School Board Presentation and web-sites
