Physical Properties Any characteristic of a material that can be observed or measured with out changing the composition of that substance.

VISCOSITY The tendency of a liquid to resist flowing

CONDUCTIVITY A materials ability to allow heat to flow through it.

MALLEABILITY The ability of a solid to be hammered with out shattering.

HARDNESS The resistance of a material to scratching.

MELTING POINT The temperature at which a SOLID melts.

BOILING POINT The temperature at which a liquid boils.

DENSITY The ratio of the mass of a substance to its volume.
Density= Mass/Volume D=M/V

Chemical Properties The way a substance reacts with other substances to form new substances with different properties.

Reactivity The property that describes how easily a substance combines chemically with other substances.

Flammability The ability of a material to burn in the presence of oxygen.

Physical Change Changes that occur when some of the properties of a material change, but the substances in the material remain the same.

Chemical Changes A change that occurs when a substance reacts and forms one or more new substances.
