Quote 9 Malcom X: I can’t love a group of people that has oppressed my people for over 300 years. Quote 1 Malcom X: Your “nonviolence” results in more blacks being beaten and killed. Quote 2 MLK: Your ideas of self-defense will provoke more violence against blacks. Quote 3 Malcom X: Integration into a racist system won’t work. Quote 5 Malcom X: Nothing will change until black people start fighting back. Quote 6 MLK: We must not resort to the tactics that they use against us. Quote 7 Malcom X: Why waste time trying to change white people’s minds. Quote 8 MLK: Why should we create an image of blacks for whites to fear and hate? Writing Assignment Options 1. Write a 5 paragraph essay comparing and contrasting the lives and beliefs of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. 1. Must have at least 2 pieces of supporting evidence per body paragraph. These can be from the background information or the documents we read and discussed this week. 2. Create a two page dialogue between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X that reflects their differing viewpoints on the method African Americans should use to achieve equal rights in the United States follow these steps to complete your dialogue: 1. Begin your dialogue by copying the following lines on a piece of paper 1. Malcolm X – Martin, you’re going about this civil rights thing all wrong. 2. Martin Luther King Jr. – Is that right? Well, do you have any better ideas? 3. Malcolm X – as a matter of fact I do… (finish this sentence)

Debate Dialogue The last option is to develop a dialogue that debates two (2) of the four (4) issues below. O you can set this up to be a 3 person debate, you introduce the topic and ask questions and have Malcolm X and MLK respond to your questions. 1. Create a two page dialogue between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X that uses their beliefs to explain their opinion on two of the following topics. 1. Affirmative Action 1.
