5 Why are we here? Indicator 8 of the State Performance Plan The percentage of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.

8 Who do I count?  Provide counts only for students for whom you are the district of liability.  Only students who have an IEP should be counted.  One survey should go to each person that signs a student’s IEP.

9 Who do I count (cont’d)?  Preschool survey: students not yet in kindergarten  School age survey: students in kindergarten and above

10 How will counts be collected?  Counts will be collected electronically.electronically  You will receive an email with a link.  All counts must be submitted by February 12 th.

11 What if… After counts are submitted:  A student moves into or out of the district?  A student is referred for special education?  A student is found eligible for special education?  A student exits or is no longer eligible for special education?

14 What you will receive?  Sealed envelopes: postage-paid preschool surveys AND school age surveys  Postage-paid postcard reminders  An unsealed example  Links to promotional materials (electronically)  All materials will start arriving the week of March 21 st

15 What you will be asked to do  Address and mail all envelopes by Friday, April 1.  Address the envelopes to the person(s) who is signing the IEP.  Promote the survey effort using provided materials, word of mouth, among other methods.  Send postcard reminders one to two weeks following the survey launch.

19 Helpful Tips  Print address labels when generating survey counts.  When printing labels, print two sets: 1 for survey packet, 1 for postcard reminder.  Update student addresses during IEP meetings.  Utilize parent email database.
