2. Imagery. Example from text;
There he was, returning to me. His white shirt bobbed over the back fence and slowly grew larger. He came up the back steps, latched the door behind him & sat on his cot. Wordlessly, he held up his pants. He lay down, and for a while I heard his cot trembling. Soon he was still. I didn’t hear him stir again.
Why the author includes this;
The author shows Jim returning with his pants, & he’s very quiet returning.

3. Setting. Example from text;
The setting was at their house & the Radley place, basically at night time. The mood is frightened.
The effect it has on the reader;
The effect of them creeping around at night time at the Radley place makes the reader suspenseful about what will happen next.

4. Foreshadowing Example from the text;
Dill stretched, yawned, and said altogether too casually, “I know what, let’s go for a walk.” He sounded fishy to me. Nobody in Maycomb just went for a walk.
The effect;
The effect of this passage is to show Dill is up to something.

5. Theme
The theme is that you shouldn’t mess around in other people’s property. It could lead to trouble.
The author probably includes this theme because it shows that people shouldn’t bother others, & that Scout & Jem learned from that experience.

6. Characterization
Jem appears to have learned from the experience of losing his pants at the Radley house, because for a while they didn’t mess with Boo.
