Haruki Murakami (b. 1949) Studied drama.
Influenced by Western literature (Dostoevsky, Dickens, Kafka, Kerouac). Translator from English into Japanese. Ran a jazz bar. Author of essays, short stories, novels, ex., A Wild Sheep Chase (1982), Norwegian Wood,(1987), Kafka on the Shore (2002), 1Q84 (2010). Became an international literary superstar: translated into 50+ languages. Receiver of numerous awards. Most popular Japanese writer outside Japan!!!
