Farm Culture Scarce resources; harsh climate, and ancient property laws evolved the Norwegian farm culture Grains are grown only in the southern Norway while western Norway has some livestock raising and dairy farming One type of farming was whaling which is the practice or industry of hunting and killing whales for their oil, meat or whalebone.

Fashion The Norwegian folk costume worn during the 19 th century is called “nasjonalen’ It became popular in 1840 as part of the national romantic movement Became a strong symbol for the norwegiansism- movement.

Art Portraits were very popular at this time Edvard Munch, one of the most famous and well-known artist in history, painted during this time. The Scream

Literature One of the most famous figures in Norwegian literature is Henrik Ibsen Some of his work includes: “A Doll’s House”, “The Wild Duck”, and “Hedda Gabler”.

Architecture Most of the active architects in Norway at this time were military officers that have studied civil engineering Architecture was of interest mainly to limited group of wealthy merchants and landowners The materials used were stone and wood Stone houses were a symbol of wealth
