What is an ecosystem?
2
Stable Ecosystem What do you think it means to have a stable ecosystem?
3
Stable Ecosystem A stable ecosystem contains a wide range or producers, consumers and decomposers living together in different habitats. The members of the community are interdependent. It is a delicately balanced biological unit which normally contains a wide variety of species.
5
Many things can effect the stability of an ecosystem. What examples can you think of?
6
Grazing
7
What do you think would happen in cases of very high or very low grazing and why?
8
Pollution Pollution can have a massive effect on the variety of species in an ecosystem. Using the Torrance text book can you take notes on different types of pollution and the effects they have on the ecosystem. Write your notes in your own words. Do not copy from the book.
9
Human Activity Other forms of human activity also have a major impact on the biodiversity in an ecosystem.
11
Effects of deforestation Loss of food Habitat Destruction Loss of plant species used for medicine etc Flow of water to rivers no longer regulated Rapid run-off of rain Erosion of fertile top soil More carbon dioxide in the atmosphere Less water vapour returned to atmosphere Habitat destruction
