What is Light? Light is very important in everybody’s life. It is one of the many ways that energy can travel. Moving through space, water, or other materials in waves, it lets you see everything around you that is lit up. Millions of light photons bounce off of the objects that the light reaches and they go in every direction, which lets you see things the things in your sight because thousands of photons reach your eyes after they bounce off of objects. Since light is a form of radiant energy, light can become heat and heat can become light. The main source of light for living beings on Earth is the sun. Even though it is very far away, so only a fraction of the sun’s energy reaches Earth, it is a very bright star with powerful light waves. It provides us with natural light and heat we need to live with. Light can also come from man-made objects, such as lasers and light bulbs. All of the man-made light is delivered in different ways. For example, lasers deliver light in a straight line because the photon packages are very close together. It only illuminates the objects it its path. Light coming from light bulbs releases photons that go in every single direction. It illuminates everything the light can reach. All that humans see is light bouncing off of objects. Objects themselves do not have any colors. They reflect certain wavelengths that the human eye distinguishes such as yellow, red, purple, or any of a number of colors. Without light, Earth would be a lifeless, cold rock floating out in space. Light is the key to life.

Examples One example of light is lasers. They are probably the most powerful form of light. Lasers are used for anything from cutting metal to cold fusion. Another example of light is light bulbs. They are used in every aspect of our lives. They are used for headlights, projectors, and many other things. Light bulbs are very important. Another example of light is TV screens. They consist of three main colors. You can see them if you look really closely. The colors are red, blue, and green. One more example of light is natural light. This includes the sun and the northern and southern lights. Natural light is our key to life.
