1 Subscribers – List Model
<Introduction.> In this session we are going to be learning about the subscribers tab

2 Objectives In this session we will learn: Who are Subscribers?
What preference and profile attributes are and how to create and manage them. How to create a subscriber list, and add and manage subscribers. Segment subscribers using groups and data filters. By the end of the session you will be familiar with: The Subscribers Rule. Profile and Preference Attributes, how to create them, how they can be populated, and how they can be leveraged. How to create a subscriber list and How to segment subscribers.

4 Subscribers Let’s start off with Subscribers Rule!

5 Who are Subscribers? A subscriber is a person who has opted in to receive communications from your organization. Each subscriber must have a valid address. Additional information about a subscriber can be captured and tracked using Profile and Preference Attributes. Who is a subscriber? It is a person who has chosen to receive communications by opting in. They have provided an address to receive communications, and they may have provided additional information on their preferences and maybe personal attributes. Why is the opt-in component so important?

6 Subscribers Tab To add and manage subscribers, profile and preference attributes, lists, groups, and data filters, navigate to the subscribers tab. Our focus in the application will be on the Subscribers tab. This is where we will create attributes, lists, groups and manage our subscribers.

7 Subscribers Workflow Our workflow for configuring this area will actually begin outside the application by identifying Profile and Preference Attributes which are required. Our first step in the application will be configuring those profile and preference attributes. We will then learn how to create a list and add subscribers. Finally, we will learn how to segment our subscribers using one of our methods.

8 Profile Attributes The first configuration we will complete in this area is Profile Attributes

9 What is a Profile Attribute?
A profile attribute contains information to characterize a subscriber. One value can be assigned to the profile attribute per subscriber. Values cannot vary depending on lists. Your account has three default profile attributes: (cannot be removed) Full Name User Defined Additional Profile Attributes can be created. Examples: Birthday, gender, location, etc. Profile attributes contain information to characterize a subscriber. They are essentially personal datapoints. Three profile attributes come off the shelf with your account: (which cannot be removed and is a require attribute when creating lists as we will see), full name, and User defined (which is a generic attribute which you may use as you wish. Additional profile attributes can be created to facilitate your communications.

10 Create a Profile Attribute
Navigate to the Subscribers Tab and select Profile Management from the menu. Click the Create button from the toolbar. To create a new Profile Attributes navigate to Profile Management. When you select Profile Management the workspace will display all the profile attributes which have already been configured on your account (include the name, description, data type, the visibility/editability of the subscriber, and default values). From the toolbar click Create and the New Attributes Properties window opens.

11 Create a Profile Attribute
Complete the General information about the attribute. Provide a Name for the attribute. Enter a Description and change the Display Order (optional). Set the Attributes: Required: value is mandatory. Hidden: Is not visible to the subscriber in the Profile Center. Read-Only: The subscriber can view but not modify the value. Do not update subscriber values with send time values. The first tab we will configure is the General tab. Here we will enter a unique name for the attributes. Next we can enter a description and modify the display order these items are optional. Then we will set the attributes (if required). Options here we can make the attribute required (must be completed), hidden (visible in the ET app only, subscribers will not see it), or read only (the subscriber can see the value but will not be able to modify it). You can also select Do not update subscriber values with send time values: If the subscriber who already exists in your system triggers a triggered send, this checkbox determines whether the system updates the attribute with the attribute values provided with the triggered send trigger. We’ll worry more about this option when we learn about triggered sends.

12 Create a Profile Attribute
Configure the Data tab: Select the Data Type. Enter a Default Value. Specify minimum and maximum lengths. Click the Data tab to set the Data Type (text date or numeric). A default value can be set here, which may be a good idea if the profile attribute you are creating will be used for personalization. Minimum and maximum lengths can also be set here.

13 Create a Profile Attribute
Specify possible values (optional). It is possible to configure restricted values for the attribute (which can be selected from a drop down list). To configure this go the Values tab and click Add and name the value. Click add again to add a second restricted value and so on until all values are populated. There is a fourth tab, Salesforce, which is available for those with Salesforce integration. To save the new attribute click the OK button.

14 See it DEMO Navigate to Subscribers > Profile Management > Create Name: Loyalty Card Number Mark Read-Only Data Type = Text min 0 max 15 Show values

15 Preference Attributes
Before we start creating list and importing subscribers, we may also want to create preference attributes

16 What are Preference Attributes
A preference attribute indicates how a subscriber prefers to receive s. One default preference attribute is present on your account. HTML . Additional Preference Attributes can be created. Examples: Monthly Newsletters, New Product Announcements, etc. Preference attributes indicate how a subscriber prefers to receive s. They are based on simply yes/no logic. By default one preference attribute will be on your account: HTML where the subscriber can indicate they prefer to receive in HTML Format.

17 Create a Preference Attribute
Navigate to the Subscribers tab and select Preference Management. Click the Create button from the toolbar. The process to create a Preference Attribute is similar to creating a profile attribute. To imitate the process we will navigate to Preference Management and select Create from the tool bar.

18 Create a Preference Attribute
Complete fields under the General tab. Enter a name. Enter a Description and Display Order (optional) Set a Default Value Hidden: the attribute will not be displayed to the subscriber. Read-Only: the subscriber can view but not modify the value. Do not update subscriber values with send time values. Enter a name for the preference attribute. Again we can select to add a description or change the display order. The default value can be set to either Yes or No. If you are managing subscription using Preference Attributes, it is recommended you set values for s to no to ensure subscribers have selected to receive the communications. Preference attributes can be set to be read only, hidden and to not update subscriber values with send time values.

19 Managing Profile and Preference Attributes
Before go back to the application to create a preference attribute I’d like to discuss how we can manage attributes

20 Managing Profile Attributes
Modify existing profile attributes. Click the hyperlinked attribute name to access the Properties window and make any changes required. Delete profile attributes. Toggle the box next to the profile name and click Delete. Preview Profile Center. Opens a preview window of how Profile Center will appear to your subscribers. We have the same options available for profile & preference attributes: Modify existing attributes. To edit an attribute, just click on the Attribute Name to access and update the properties. Delete: attributes which are no longer required can be removed by toggling the box next to the attribute name and clicking Delete in the toolbar. Finally, we can preview Profile Center from here.

21 Profile Center Subscribers can manage their attributes and preferences using Profile Center. The preview is a great tool to see how Profile Center appears to your subscribers and identify if any changes in attribute names, order or visibility need to be made. A link to Profile Center is included in the foot of s by default and allows subscribers to update their profile and preference attributes. It also provides access to Subscription Center which allows them to manage communications they receive from your organization.

22 See it DEMO Create a Preference Attribute
Name: Tell me about new products Description: Check this option if you would like to receive communications about new products when they are released. Manage: Preview Profile Center Delete: Preference Attribute just created. QUESTIONS? THINK ABOUT IT: What attributes are you already capturing which you will bring into the application? How will you use preference attributes?

23 Lists Now that we have configured the Profile and Preference Attributes we need, we can begin creating lists.

24 What is a List? A list is a compilation of subscribers that receive your communications. Multiple lists can be created to segment subscribers to target your communications. A list is a compilation of subscribers that receive your communications. You can create multiple lists on your account to segment subscribers to target your communications – for example we can create lists for sending to our monthly newsletter, weekly specials, new products or classes, etc. One great feature when creating a list is we are able to mark it as public – this provides visibility to the subscriber via the Subscription Center (which we will see later) QUESTION: What communications can you manage with lists? The workflow for list is to first create the list, then we are able to add subscribers. Let’s look at how to create a list….

25 Create a List Navigate to my subscribers > my lists. Click Create.
First Navigate to my subscribers > my lists and click Create

26 Create a List Enter properties for the list.
Click Next. Enter a Name. It identifies the list in the Send Wizard. Enter an External Key and Description (optional). Mark Public if the list should be visible to subscribers (optional). Specify location and associate to campaign (optional). There will be two forms to complete to create the list. On the first page we will enter the properties: Name (which will identify the list in the send wizard). External key and description (optional) Make the list Public if you would like your subscribers to be able to see the list in their subscription center (and either subscribe or unsubscribe from it). Note that if you do make the list public both the name and the description will be visible to your subscribers. Specific a location and associate a campaign (optional). Once relevant fields have been created click next to access the second page.

27 Create a List Select if you would like to send a welcome email.
Default value is ‘Do not send welcome .’ If you select to send a welcome , select the you wish to send by clicking the Select button and choosing the appropriate . Click Save. This page allows you to select whether or not your would like to send a welcome The default value is ‘Do not send welcome ’. If you choose to ‘send a welcome ’ you will select a pre-built .

28 See it Create a list Name: NTO Newsletter External Key: NTO_Newsletter

29 Subscribers Once a list (or lists) have been configured, we are going to want to add our existing subscribers to the appropriate lists.

30 Add Subscribers to a List
There are two ways to add a subscriber to a list in the ExactTarget application: Manually: add one subscriber at a time using the Create Subscriber Wizard. Import Subscribers into a List: add multiple subscribers at once using the Import option. We have two options for adding subscribers: Manually: you can add a subscriber directly in the application using the Create Subscriber Wizard. Import Subscribers into a List: allows you add many subscribers at once by importing a csv, tab delimited or other delimited file into the application.

31 Add Subscribers to a List - Manually
Select the list you wish to add a subscriber to. Click the hyperlinked list name, or Toggle the box next to the list name and click Subscribers in the toolbar. Click Create in the toolbar. Adding subscribers may be added manually by selecting the list you wish to add the subscriber to and clicking Create in the toolbar.

32 Add Subscribers to a List - Manually
The Create Subscribers Wizard opens. Click Next. Enter a Address and Subscriber Key (if available) and enter profile attributes. Click Next. Enter the subscriber’s address. If your organization has enabled subscriber key, you may also enter a subscriber key here. Profile attributes may also be entered here. If you are not familiar with subscriber key: By default, address is the unique identifier for the subscriber and an address can only exist once per account. However, this will prevent multiple people at the same address from having individual subscriptions – subscriber key is the solution to this issue as once enable it because the unique identifier on the account.

33 Add Subscribers to a List - Manually
The list will be selected; you may select additional lists to add the subscriber to. Click Finish. The subscriber has been created. Add another subscriber or click Finish to exit the Create Subscriber Wizard. Select any additional lists you would like to add the subscriber to and click the Finish button. You will see confirmation you are complete. You can then choose to create another subscriber, or click Finish to exit the wizard.

34 See it DEMO Create a subscriber manually

35 Add Subscribers to a List - Import
Select the list you wish to add a subscriber to. Click the hyperlinked list name, or Toggle the box next to the list name and click Subscribers in the toolbar. Click Import in the toolbar. Our second method, importing to a list, is more efficient when adding (or updating) a more substantial number of subscribers. This process can even be automated, we’ll learn more about that in a future session. For now, let’s focus on how we learning the basics of how to initiate an import 1. We will select the list we wish to import to and then click Import from the toolbar

36 Add Subscribers to a List - Import
The Import Subscriber Wizard opens. Click Next. Verify you have received opt-in permission for this list by toggling I agree. Click Next. This will open the Import Subscribers Wizard. Click next on the first page to begin. The second screen in the wizard is going to prompt you to confirm the subscribers you are importing have opted-in to receiving communications from your company. Permission-based marketing is a best practice – you will realize the most success communicating with subscribers who have engaged with your brand and have chosen to receive your messages. Once you have certified your list is permission-based, click ‘I agree’ and the next button.

37 Add Subscribers to a List - Import
Identify the source file. Click Choose File to select the import file, select the Data Format and Update Options. Data Formats: CSV Tab Delimited Other Delimited Update Options: Add and update. Add only. Update only. On this screen we are going to select our file to import – this may be selected from our local computer, or it may be retrieved from an FTP. Ensure you specify the appropriate Data Format, there are three options: CSV Tab Delimited Other Delimited (you will indicate the delimiter) Finally, we have the update options – your select here may vary depending on if it is new list or a list you are updating. Add new subscribers and update subscribers who already exist will both add and update your subscribers. This option will be suitable for the majority of your import scenarios. Add new subscribers but do not update subscribers who already exist with only add subscribes – existing subscribers will not be modified. Update existing subscribers but do not add subscribers will only update subscribers who are already present on the list.

38 Add Subscribers to a List - Import
Map Attributes. Values which are an exact match for attributes will automatically map. Attributes can be mapped or unmapped by selecting the attribute and value and clicking the appropriate button. Select notification to confirm import completion and enter address. Click Begin. In the next step, we will map attributes. A value which have been provided a header which is an exact match for an attribute will automatically map (which is a good thing to keep in mind when you are creating attributes and preparing your import file). If the value does not have an exact match it can be easily mapped by highlighting both the value and the attribute and clicking map. Similiarly, we can also unmap attributes. Note that only mapped attributes will be imported. Finally, we will select if we would like to receive an notification when the import is completed (might be handy when importing large files) and enter an address to receive notification. Click begin and the import will start.

39 Add Subscribers to a List - Import
Progress will be displayed while the import file uploads. Notification will be displayed when the import is complete. Click Finish. The list workspace will automatically refresh to display the updated subscribers. Progress will be displayed while the file imports, and notification will be displayed (and ed if selected) when the import is complete. Now you can click finish and the workplace will automatically refresh to display the subscribers you imported!

40 See it DEMO: Import a to the list just created.

41 Subscriber Status Once added, subscribers may fall into different statuses within the application. When we are viewing subscribers, we can easily identify their current status based on the icon displayed The first two statuses will be sent communications: The green subscriber icon indicates that subscriber is active. An active subscriber has opted in to receive s and has provided a valid and deliverable address. s sent are delivered and the current bounce count is zero. The Yellow subscriber icon indicates the subscriber has bounced. There may have been one or two hard soft bounces or one hard bounce. Once an is successfully sent to the subscriber the bounce count returns to zero and the subscriber status returns to Active. The second two statuses are not sent communications: Held / undeliverable is the next status and is represented with a gray icon. To enter this status, there has been three hard bounces, or three soft bounces within at least 15 days. The 15 day minimum for soft bounces is called the vacation rule, it is possible soft bounces are due to something like a full inbox which may persist over a number of days if the subscriber is not actively checking their . A subscriber status will also be Held/Undeliverable if there has been one hard bounce from a trusted domain (such as gmail or AOL) The last status is represented with a red icon, that is Unsubscribed. This status is shown for subscribers who opted out of communication. Another way a subscriber can enter this status is by submitting an AOL spam complaint. Those who have unsubscribed from communications will still receive transactional s (such as order confirmations). – The unsubscribe can be at the list level (they have opted out of a particular type of communication), or at the All Subscribers level (all commercial communications)

42 All Subscribers Each subscriber added to the ExactTarget application will automatically be added to the All Subscribers list. Each subscriber added into the application will be added to the All Subscribers list. This is essentially the master list of all subscribers on your account.

43 Manage Subscribers Subscribers can be: Searched for. Exported.
Moved or copied to different lists. Updated or unsubscribed using Properties. Deleted. Once subscribers have been created, we are able to manage them. We can export, move or copy, update, delete or search for users.

44 Search for a Subscriber
Quickly locate subscribers who need to be updated: Click Search in All Subscribers Search by address, domain, HTML preference, Subscriber Status or Subscriber Key. From the search results you can view Subscriber Properties, delete the subscriber, export the results or copy the Subscriber. Using the Search option, you are able to search all subscribers on your account by address, domain, HTML preference, subscriber status or subscriber key. Once you have search results there are a few actions you can take: View properties: which would allow you to update properties as well. One was you may use this is to search for a subscriber who has communicated a desire to subscribe to additional communications, or to unsubscribe from all. The last three options: Export, Copy and delete we’ll talk about in a bit more detail in a few moments – I would just like to highlight the Export option here can be used not only to export subscribers for use outside the system, you can also re-import subscribers yielded in the results to segment by items like domain and HTML preference.

45 Export Subscribers Click Export in the toolbar of the list you wish to export. Select the Data Format, enter a File Name, and compression and delivery option. Click Next. Select attributes to export and click Export. When you choose to export subscribers from search results or from a list, you will start the export by clicking Export in the toolbar. Then you will select your data format from the dropdown menu; you can select from CSV, TXT (text delimited) or XML. The file name will default to export_[filename]_[date] – you can modify this if needed. Exported files can be compress (by default they WILL NOT be(. Finally, select your delivery option (FTP or ) and click next. Depending on the intent of your export, you may not wish to export all profile and preference attributes. By default no attributes will be included in the export file. You can select items one at a time using by highlighting the attributes and clicking the single arrow key, or you can click the double arrow key to add all the attributes to the export fie. You can also remove items from the export file using the arrow keys. Once you have selected the attributes to include, click Export.

46 Move or Copy Subscriber
Select the subscriber(s) and click Move/Copy. Select the list to move/copy to and settings (maintain subscriber status and/or move/copy all subscribers on the source list). Click the Move or Copy button. Move/Copy results are displayed on screen. Moving or copying subscribers between lists is also very simply, just select the subscriber and click ‘Move/Copy’, then select the target list and click either the move or copy button. Note that you can select to maintain subscriber status from the originating list when you move/copy to the destination list (ideal option when copying), or you can select to move/copy all subscribers on the source list (careful with this option if you are copying from the All Subscribers list). Once the move is complete, the results will be displayed on screen.

47 Subscriber Properties
Update attributes. Add or remove from lists. View group assignment. View History, which details the communications which have taken place with the subscriber in the last 90 days. Unsubscribe. You can manage subscriber properties including lists, attributes, and group assignment, view the most recent communications which have been sent to the subscriber, or unsubscribe them from all communications. Toggle the subscriber you wish to update and click Properties in the toolbar.

48 Delete Subscriber Deleting subscribers is not recommended.
Subscribers can be removed by selecting one or more and clicking Delete from the toolbar. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion. Deleting subscribers is not recommended. The last tool for managing users is Delete. This will permanently remove subscribers from the application. Deleting subscribers is not recommended. If a subscriber no longer wishes to receive communications, they should be unsubscribed in the application and not removed. When a person is unsubscribed, they will not receive future marketing communications UNLESS they are deliberately re-subscribed in the application. If the former subscriber is deleted it may be possible they are accidently re-subscribed (perhaps they forget to uncheck a communication opt-in box when they are ordering something, or a list is imported adding new subscribers and the unsubscribed party is still on that list). So to be safe, do not remove subscribers – even the inactive ones. So why have this feature? You may want to remove subscribers you have added for test purposes – for example, perhaps you have added yourself and some colleagues to complete test s, but modified test recipients. In this case, you may choose to delete these ‘subscribers’ as they were not true subscribers to begin with. In this case, select the subscriber and click Delete. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion before it completes.

50 Grow your List: Best Practices
Grow your list organically. Sell value. Diversify, track and evaluate. Don’t look for a silver bullet. Use technology! See more Best Practices | Try the List Growth Adviser | Learn about MobileConnect Grow your list organically: Capture opt-ins via your website – and in real life! Have sales associates and contact center staff ask customers if they would like to receive communications, promote it to followers and fans on your facebook page and twitter (capture that audience who is already engaged). These are tactics to grow an engaged subscriber list. Sell value: Tell your customer what is in it for them. Let them know the frequency and content they will receive. Diversify, track and evaluate: Don’t count on one tactic to increase your subscribers – use several! Don’t look for a silver bullet: You want to grow a quality subscriber base, this takes time. Tactics that promise fast results may lead to quantity, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to quality. Use technology: Use tools like Social Forward to promote social conversations (online and off), or MobileConnect to gain subscribers who prefer communications via SMS

51 Groups

52 What is a Group? A group is a subset of subscribers from a list (or another group). Allows you to make targeted lists of subscribers at random or based on specific criteria. Groups allow you to create targeted lists of subscribers based on random or specified criteria. Groups can be created from lists, or even other groups within the application.

53 Group Creation Options
There are two methods to create a group. Filtered: Create a group based on criteria about the subscriber. Random: Create a group with subscribers either randomly selected or selected at a fixed interval. Up to 12 groups can be created for each list and group in the application, and up to 12 groups can be created at once using certain methods. There are four methods of group creation: Build a rule based on profile and preferences (allows you to create a group based on attributes) Pick a random group from a subscriber list (specify the number of member of the group should have by quantity or percentage, groups can be created for up to 100% of the subscriber list using this method) Choose subscribers at a constant interval from a subscriber list (specify the number of subscribers to add to the list and the interval at which they will be chosen). Build a group based on a Data Filter. (a more sophisticated segmentation option we will look at in more detail in our final section today). The method you choose will vary depending on the intention for building the group – are you creating groups for segmentation? Or for testing? Let take a better look at each of these methods:

54 Create a Filtered Group
Navigate to My Groups and click Create. Choose Filtered. Select the List from which the group will be derived. Click OK. Once you have selected this method and clicks yes, you will indicate which list the group will be derived from. Then you will select the Profile or Preference attributes and set values. If you click the Advanced button you are provided the functionality to add multiple conditions (this is where our and/or operators will come into play. Once values have been set click next.

55 Create a Filtered Group
Drag & Drop Attributes or Filters. Configure each attribute. Add multiple attributes using the AND and OR operator to define criteria conditions. Click Save & Build. Filters are pre-configured Data Filters.

56 Create a Filtered Group
Give the group a Name, Description and Location. Click Save. Once you have selected this method and clicks yes, you will indicate which list the group will be derived from. Then you will select the Profile or Preference attributes and set values. If you click the Advanced button you are provided the functionality to add multiple conditions (this is where our and/or operators will come into play. Once values have been set click next.

57 Create a Random Group Random Groups are used to assign a number or percentage of list or group members to the new group. Up to 12 groups can be created at a time using this method. Up to 100% of subscribers on a list or group can be randomly assigned to groups using this method. Random groups are used when you would like to create a group containing a random sample of your subscribers – using this option you will specify a number or percentage of list or group member to assign to the new group. Thus method allows you to create multiple groups at once and assign up to 100% of subscribers on a list or group – of course you can always create just one group for less than 100% of the subscribers as well.

58 Create a Random Group In my groups click Create. Select Random.

59 Create a Random Group Click Add Group, specify group name/size in percentage or number of subscribers. Specify a Location if different than My Groups. Repeat up to 12 times. You can also choose to Add Remainder at any time. Click Save and Build

60 Manage Groups

61 Group Management Once Groups have been created they can be managed.
Edit name, description, external key or location. Edit the conditions for Filtered Groups and refresh group. View Subscribers. View associated tracking.

62 Group Workspace Groups displayed in the workspace can be filtered by type (Random or Filtered). You may select columns to display to customize your view. Select and deselect columns to display. To the Groups Details from the workspace, click on the group name.

63 Group Management Add to a Campaign Edit group name and description
Workspace navigate using tabs Send Refresh, Split or Delete First Navigate to my subscribers > my lists and click Create

64 Group Management Properties allows you to: View group details.
Edit Filter Number of Subscribers Data of last group refresh. You also have the option of saving the filter. First Navigate to my subscribers > my lists and click Create

65 Save the Filter If you choose to save a filter for future use it will be saved as a Data Filter. Enter in a name. Specify the location. Click Save.

66 Group Management Tracking allows you to see:
Groups composition (subscriber status). Recent Sends. Links to relevant ExactTarget subscriber reports. First Navigate to my subscribers > my lists and click Create

67 Group Updating Group assignments are made when this group is created.
New subscribers will not automatically be added to the group. To update the group to include new members, periodically refresh the group. Subscribers are assigned to this group when the group is created; by default the group will not automatically refresh, so any new subscribers added to the list who meet the criteria for group membership will not be auto-added. To update the group, navigate to my groups, select the group and click ‘Refresh Group’. When you are refreshing groups, it is recommended that you refresh no more than two at a time for system optimization reasons.

69 Data Filters The last group creation method we looked at was creating a group based on a Data Filter – we are now going to learn more about Data Filters and how we create and manage them.

70 What is a Data Filter? A data filter is a group of criteria that segments a subscriber list or data extension. Can filter based on list attributes and data extension fields. Both AND and OR operators can be used to create the Data Filter Definition. To start off our more in depth look at Data Filters, let’s learn more about what they are: A Data Filter provides criteria to segment subscribers on a list or a data extension (Data Extensions is a table within the application database which contain data, usually pertaining to subscribers, which provide a robust alternative to lists – we will learn about Data Extensions in much more detail in an upcoming session). When we create a Data Filter, we build Data Filter Definitions, which are the criteria for the attributes/fields which From the perspective of creating groups based on lists, Data Filters provide us with a more sophisticated option of segmenting subscribers as we can create complex criteria using both the AND and OR operators in the Data Filter Definition.

71 Create a Data Filter Navigate to Data Filters.
Click Create from the toolbar. To create a Data Filter, we will go to the Data Filters area and click the create button.

72 Create a Data Filter Enter a Name, External Key and Description.
Create the Data Filter Definition. Click Save. Conditions can include the AND and OR operators. Click the operator to change it. Multiple conditions and groups can be used to create the Data Filter Definition. Then, enter a name external key and description (key and description are optional). The next step is to enter the conditions to create the definition. The condition offers both an out grouping and inner group (so we can nest conditions within the criteria). For example, we can create a condition where GENDER is MALE, and the preferred sport is CAMPING, HIKING or CANOEING. The Data Filter Condition can be complex and include multiple conditions and groupings if needed.

73 Manage Data Filters Once Data Filters have been created you can manage them. Delete: Remove obsolete data filters. Move: move the filter into a different folder. Once Data Filters have been created: - They can deleted or moved.

74 Create a Group Based on a Data Filter
This final group creation method can be used once Data Filters have been configured on your account. Data Filters can be configured to filter subscribers for attributes using both AND and OR. Group Grouping OR AND Condition Condition Our final options is to create a group based on Data Filter. Data Filters allow us to segment subscribers based on attributes using both AND and OR operators. We are going to learn how to build Data Filters in a little bit, but first let’s look at how they can be applied to create groups….

75 Create a Group Based on a Data Filter
Select the list to create the group from. Select the Data Filter from the drop down menu. Enter a Group Name. Click the Create button. First we will select to the list to create the group from, then the Data Filter from the dropdown menu (you will have the option to select from all data filters on your account), select the one you wish to apply and click OK. Then enter a name for the group and click the ‘Create’ button to complete the process.

76 See it DEMO: Create a Data Filters Scenario: Northern Trail Outfitters would like to communicate with appropriate subscribers about a new item added to their reward merchandise – a men’s thermal shirt designed for outdoor activities. They would like to communicate with male subscribers who have indicated their favorite sport as one of the outdoor sport options, and have the loyalty points required to obtain this time (3000) Condition = Gender is Male AND Add Grouping (OR) Sport is CANOEING , HIKING OR CAMPING. Add condition Loyalty Points IS GREATER THAN 3000 SAVE Highlight management options.
