Room 1 Return to Entry Castle Chillon

Lakeside photo of Chillon Castle In Montreux, Switzerland a beautiful castle that sits on Lake Geneva is undated on the actual year of construction but there is record of the castle in the 1100’s. In its existing state, the Castle of Chillon is the result of multiple centuries of continuous building, revisions, renovations and restorations. The island on which the castle is constructed, was both a natural protection and a tactical position to control the route between northern and southern Europe. Return to Exhibit Château de Chillon

Room 2 Return to EntryZermatt

Matterhorn overlooking Zermatt Hidden in a valley much like the rest of the cities in Switzerland, Zermatt offers a gorgeous view of the Matterhorn, one of my most famous mountains in the world. The climate is amazing: with 300 sunny days a year, there is less rainfall than anywhere else in Switzerland. The air in Zermatt is clear, dry and clean, because, since 1947, only electric cars without a combustion engine are allowed to operate in the village. Things are a little different in Zermatt but upon visiting one would fall in love with the welcoming atmosphere and you just might run across people alphorns. Return to Exhibit Zermatt

Room 3 Return to EntryMatterhorn

Matterhorn The "Matterhorn" is an extremely famous mountain located in Switzerland. It is 4478 meters high, but is not the highest peak in the country. The first men who to climb to the top of this mountain was a group of seven mountaineers led by Edward Whymper from Great Britain on July 14, 1865. Four of the seven men died on the way down. The city of Zermatt has a climbers cemetery where many people who have fallen down the mountain are buried. Return to Exhibit Matterhorn

Room 4 Return to Entry Swiss Cheese Fondue

Cheese fondue is a traditional Swiss dish that originated in the Alps. It’s a peasant meal, using ingredients that were accessible in the winter: cheese, wine, grainy bread. There are several traditions that revolve around cheese fondue but the one that I learned on my visit was that if you drop a piece of bread in the pot, you must walk around the entire table and give a kiss to each person of the opposite sex. Return to Exhibit Cheese Fondue, a Swiss Tradition

Linked citation goes here Switzerland is the land of the Alps. Its loftiest peak is the Dufourspitze at 15,203 ft (4,634 m). Most of Switzerland is made of a mountainous plateau bordered by the great bulk of the Alps on the south and by the Jura Mountains on the northwest. Return to Exhibit Geography of Switzerland
