Interior Design I final design project

You own your own interior design firm and 2 clients come in. They are in their mid 50s and have 6 children. All of their children are out of the house except for their youngest who is a senior in high school. They have 3 grand children. They just barely downsized their living space and moved into a newly built home with an unfinished basement. They want to hire you to design their basement. They have brought the raw floor plan outline for you to look over. The Background

Part 1: Write down a list of 5-10 questions that you would ask these clients to get to know them. Make sure these questions address their design style, their needs/wishes for the space, and who they are as people/as a couple so you can meet their needs in your design. Part 2: Sketch the entire outline of the floor plan. Remember the load bearing walls and the furnace and plumbing that the contractor has already placed in the space. The Background

Part 3: Draw in your floor plan walls and all symbols making sure to include the clients wants/needs. Make sure to include all bedrooms, playrooms, bathrooms, entertaining space, etc. that the client wants. The Floor Plan

Part 4: Decide what 2 separate spaces within your floor plan (playroom, bedroom, bathroom, movie room, etc.) you want to design. Think on the overall design, sketch ideas in your smash book to help you. Decide on the colors you want in your space, find furniture, accessories, bedding, flooring, paint, etc. that you like and cut out the pictures/samples to place on your sample board. The Design

Part 5: Begin to draw in the furniture and accessories for your two rooms and the rest of the basement on your big floor plan. Part 6: Draw separate floor plans for your 2 rooms to place on your sample boards. Include all furniture, accessories, flooring, etc in your floor plans. The Design

Part 7: Assemble 2 Sample Boards for your 2 rooms that you designed. Remember to make it look professional by using a legend/key, all pictures/labels you mount needs to be ¼”. Include all pictures of furniture, fabric samples for window furnishings, paint samples, bedding material, etc. to give the client a almost “real life” rendition of what the room will look like. FOR EACH ROOM SAMPLE BOARD, YOU MUST INCLUDE-ROOM FLOOR PLAN, LABEL OF THE ROOM, AND AT LEAST 15 PICTURES THAT SHOW THE DETAILS OF THE ROOM (PAINT SAMPLE, FLOORING SAMPLE, FABRIC SAMPLE, FURNITURE PICTURES, ACCESSORIES, ETC.) Part 8: Assemble your sample board with your BIG floor plan. Mount it with a ¼” contrasting color boarder and label it “Harlan Family Basement” Your big floor plan must have everything colored so it is a “real life” rendition. The Presentation

Part 9: Write a 1 page description for each of your 2 room designs (2 pages total.) In your description include the details of the room, your inspiration behind the room, the elements and principles of design you used and any other piece of information that will sell your design to the clients. Part 10: Place your business logo on all of your sample boards. Turn in The Final Step
