On-Demand Basics Form stated in prompt Forms: Article, Letter, Editorial, Speech No set form for any grade-You may get any of them. Form is there to provide context Form does not affect scoring

On-Demand Basics, Cont. Rubric is holistic Grades are assigned from 1-4 1 is lowest; 4 is highest Important to use the rubric! Essays graded as a first draft May use outside knowledge/texts to enhance ideas

Testing Parameters No scrap paper Prewriting space is provided, but will not be scored Utilize this space! (outline, bulleted list, etc.) Writer’s reference sheet and thesaurus provided

Point Scale 4 Points: Displays consistent, though not necessarily perfect, writing skill, resulting in effective communication 3 Points: Displays adequate writing skill, resulting in effective, though not consistent, communication

Point Scale 2 Points: Displays developing writing skill, resulting in less effective communication 1 Point: Demonstrates little or no writing skill, resulting in mostly ineffective communication

Scoring Criteria- Audience & Purpose Establish and maintain focus on audience and purpose Engage audience by providing relevant background information Anticipate audience needs

Scoring Criteria- Developing Ideas Develop ideas with depth and complexity Provide insight, support, and clarification of topic Use effective examples, details, facts, explanations, description, or arguments Address counterclaims

Scoring Criteria-Organization Organize writing using a logical progression of ideas that flows within and between paragraphs Use a variety of sentence lengths and structures Include a variety of transitional words and phrases Use appropriate organizational techniques: compare/contrast, cause/effect, order of importance, reason/explanations

Scoring Criteria- Language & Conventions Maintain appropriate voice or tone Choose words that are appropriate to audience and purpose Use correct grammar, usage, and mechanics Spelling, punctuation, capitalization
