Created for Learning Sciences International June 2010

 Sexual Harassment  Respect in the Workplace  LSI’s Company Culture

 Two types of Sexual Harassment  Quid Pro Quo  If you do “x” for me, I’ll give you “y”  Hostile Environment  Harder to describe with one example – but it’s anything that can make the work environment unpleasant for others  Can be anything from a bikini calendar displayed to lewd jokes told to unacceptable touching

 Avoid issues by considering the Golden Rule  If you have to question the appropriateness of an action/statement, then it’s probably not appropriate  It can happen unintentionally - you may be joking but the person on the receiving end may be uncomfortable

 LSI recently had a charge brought against the company for sexual harassment by a former employee  The evidence indicated the situation was simply a misunderstanding, but it illustrates that the charges can arise  Better communication practices as well as consideration for others could have prevented this charge

 Reports of possible sexual harassment need to be directed to your direct supervisor; if the direct supervisor is involved in the complaint, any other member of leadership or the HR department can accept your complaint  All complaints will be investigated fully, to include examining emails and company communication methods  Complaints and investigations are handled with complete confidentiality

 Appropriate disciplinary procedures, up to and including termination, will be applied based on the outcome of the investigation  False complaints will result in disciplinary action

 Questions?  Contact information:  HR Generalist Katie Boone  724.459.2100 x114  717.817.8390  kboone@learningsciences.net

 LSI’s core practice “One-Team” can only be achieved by mutual respect among the team members

 Tiny actions convey respect  Tiny actions often get overlooked in the busy day, when deadlines are pressing down and when stressful situations arise  Be aware of how you are speaking to others  Be aware that others also have their jobs to perform

 Teamwork means Working as a Team  Coordinate with others regarding yours needs, rather than telling others to do something  Follow the Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have done unto you

 One Team  Work together across physical and departmental boundaries, creating a “boundaryless” environment  High accountability = High quality results
