UNCLASSIFIED Army Field Feeding Systems

UNCLASSIFIED Army Field Feeding Systems Vision: To provide the right food service equipment to Army Combatant Commanders giving them the organic capability to feed themselves in a modular/maneuver combat environment, training or other assignment Key Challenges/Technology: Lack of available resource No electricity Limited water supply Single fuel on battlefield JP-8 Forward feeding Improved mobility Safe storage and delivery of subsistence Effective Sanitation

UNCLASSIFIED Food Service Equipment Team Purpose: –Manage the developmental phases for Army Field Feeding System programs under the purview of the Product Manager – Force Sustainment Systems (PM-FSS) –Identify, leverage and integrate maturing technology from the S&T community with verified requirements from the user community into acquisition programs of record for a material solution Products: –Well planned and executed Acquisition Programs that field robust, efficient and proven equipment and systems for field feeding, ration storage and sanitation –Collaborative transition plan for sustainment phase ROI –Increase Soldier safety, efficiency and comfort –Conserve precious battlefield resources, such as fuel, water, and electricity –Supports current and future force –Systems with smaller foot print with less re-supply/support –Lower O&S Costs

UNCLASSIFIED  DSCP working procurement of MBUs and selected parts including power converters. Awaiting final contract approval  Production ramp up time approximately 180 days after award. First deliveries estimated May 09 if Nov 08 award  Shortfall of MBUs and power converters to support field requisitions – all electric kitchen options being procured  Shortfall of MBUs and power converters to support production of AK, CK and FSC PM FSS recovering MBUs from DRMO 70 operational MBUs recovered to date, 0 power converters  DSCP to pursue long term contract for future availability Modern Burner Unit (MBU)

UNCLASSIFIED Modern Burner Unit (MBU) Backround: Confirmation of MBU reliability test to validate 800 MTBF Identified three common failure modes: Compressor, Fuel Delivery Block and Control Panel. Changing common failure modes to operational level maintenance will double MTBF rate. Results/Products: Meeting held @ Ft Lee on 27 May to discuss implementation plan Received concurrence memorandum from CASCOM on 13 June 2008. Manual changes are being finalized. Coordinated Operator Maintenance Tool Kit effort w/ PM SKOT (NSN has been established for the user tool kit to include multimeter Tool kits purchased with GWOT funding, 245K to PM SKOT. Working with CASCOM for distribution.
