3 SYSTEMSDESIGN 3 Effective Writing  Business and technical writing.  Short sentences.  Direct voice.  Avoid jargon.  White space.  Headings and subheads.  Use graphs!  Review chart types.  Use tables!  Label everything.  Include captions. Eschew Obfuscation

4 SYSTEMSDESIGN 4 Presentation  Know your audience.  Organization and notes.  Communication  Tell them what you are going to say.  Say it.  Tell them what you said.  Introduction  Get their attention  Summarize  Conclusion  Summarize choices  Practice!  Timing  Mirror or video tape.  Speaking hints  Speak “naturally,” but slowly and distinctly.  Talk to the audience.  Maintain eye contact.  Avoid podiums.  Be prepared.  Believe in yourself.  Keep presentations short.  Leave time for questions.  Provide breaks, physical or mental.  Watch for nonverbal feedback.

5 SYSTEMSDESIGN 5 Slide Shows  Be consistent--choose a layout with a template.  Clean, uncluttered screens.  Avoid special effects.  Practice!  Test your equipment before the presentation.  Connections, etc.  Check the size/typeface.  Bring extra bulbs.  Provide handouts.
