Gold Rush By: Jensen Flowers

My Trip January 31,1848: I just heard a gold rush started a week ago. My crew and I are just getting ready to go around Cape Horn on a clipper ship. So it’ll take 3-4 months. I'm also an Argonaut & a merchant. February 24, 1848: It has been rough & stormy. We've already lost some members, but hopefully the bad weather is over. May 24, 1848:I made it and my dreams came true. I struck it rich. I opened up a food mart & a restaurant. My food cost about a golden nugget.

Fall/Winter October 22,1848: I built cabin for the Winter & for when I’m not working. December 28,1848: It is a rough Winter. I had to close my restaurant & food mart because nobody could find any gold to buy food. That's why some people didn’t make it. But I did since I had a house. I ate leftover food from my market & wore the same clothes over &over again. Once I ran out of food I had to go out I ate tree bark & hunted animals. February 4, 1849: The economy got worse. People started raising prices more & more because people kept finding more & more gold. The government was no better. Surprisingly it cost less to send your laundry to China & back than just getting it done in California.

The End August 17, 1855: People started settling down because not much gold was now found. People moved back to their home town. Some people were still mining for gold, but all they found was gold dust. The gold rush was practically over. I closed my restaurant, but I kept open my food mart. Gold Dust
