2  Learning Environments  The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

3  Only about 50% of all teen mothers receive a high school diploma by age 22 vs 90% of women who had not given birth during their teenage years  Children of teen parents have higher confinement rates and lower rates of educational opportunities  2% of all teen moms earn a college degree by the time they are 30  Over the course of a lifetime, a college graduate will earn, on average, $1 million more than a high school dropout.  Over the course of his or her lifetime, a single high school dropout costs the nation approximately $260,000 in lost earnings, taxes, and productivity

5  New Mexico has the highest rate of births to teen moms  California has about half the overall birth rates to teen moms  In 2008, Teen abortion is the highest in New York with 37 per 1000 births  Louisiana saw the highest rise in teen pregnancy from 2005 to 2008, the rate went from 67 to 80 per 1000 births  Indiana was ranked 21 out of all the states for teen pregnancies in 2011  Vermont, Minnesota, North Dakota, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire all have the lowest birth rates to teen moms

7  25% of teen moms has a 2 nd child within 2 years of the first baby  3 out of every 10 girls will get pregnant by the time they are 20  The US has one of the highest teen birth rates in the western civilized world  8 out of every 10 dads do not marry the mother of their child  In 2012, 305,000 babies were born to teen moms in the US  50% of all teen moms never considers the long term of raising a baby and how it will affect their lives  Pregnancy in teens attribute to 11 billion dollars annually to US tax payers

8  Teen age girls have higher rates of low birth weight babies and infant mortality than mothers in their 20’s  Children of teen moms are less prepared to enter the school system and score lower on measures of school readiness  Children of teen moms are 50% more likely to repeat a grade, less likely to complete high school, and have lower performance on standardized tests

9 Overall, teen pregnancy has continued to decline- especially from 1988 to 2005 In 2010, teens had fewer pregnancies than in any year since the mid-1940s In 2011, the teen birthrate in the US did fall to the lowest level recorded in nearly 70 years of tracking teen childbearing With the help of sex educational programs and more contraceptive choices, teen births are occurring a lot less amongst girls from 15 to 19 years old
