You need the same basic information for books and Internet sources: Author Title Date
3
However, when using an Internet source, you need to provide some additional information...
4
…and you usually have to look around for it on the Web site. http://www.bmslab.com/images/up/dog-at-computer.jpg
5
Look for Two Titles for a Web source:. The Title of the Site The Title of the Page/Article
6
You need Two Dates as well. The date it was created or updated The date you accessed the information
7
You also need the name of the organization or institution affiliated with the Web site. This information can usually be found at the bottom of the page with the copyright statement.
8
The final item you must include is the Electronic address, or URL of the Internet site. …in carets
9
For Example: Let’s assume you decide to research Alcatraz Prison and use information from the following Web site…
11
URL Site name Page name
12
We still do not have the Author, Organization or Date, so we need to keep looking...
13
There are 6 pages on Alcatraz, and we find the rest of the information at the end of the article. Author Organization Date
14
We now have the info needed to Cite the Site: Author Weiser, Kathy Titles “California Legends The History & Hauntings of Alcatraz” Legends of America Dates September, 2008 http://www.legendsofamerica.com/CA-Alcatraz.html http://www.legendsofamerica.com/CA-Alcatraz.html URL Site date 6 November 2008 Access date Legends of America Organization
15
Your citation for the Web site should look like this: Weiser, Kathy. "California Legends The History & Hauntings of Alcatraz.” Legends of America. September 2008. Legends of America. 9 Nov 2008.
