2 What we have learned so far?  The Oregon Trail was the only practical corridor to western United States creating a path for settlers to get across the mountains.  Yesterday we reviewed the timeline for the Oregon Trail. 3 Diaries about the Oregon Trail  Using primary sources, which provide the view point from a participant or observer, allow us to get as close as possible to the actual historical event.  Diaries are an example of a primary source where a participant or observer describes an event.  Today we are going to study the diaries of people who traveled along the Oregon Trails. http://www.plainfield.k12.in.us/hschool/webq/webq58/page1.htm

5 Group Project  Each group is going receive a set of handouts of a diary that was obtained from the following site: http://www.isu.edu/~trinmich/00.n.trailarchive.html. http://www.isu.edu/~trinmich/00.n.trailarchive.html  Group Assignment: Think of 10 interesting points that were learned to share with the rest of the class. –What did you think was interesting that you would like to share? –What were some of the hardships or challenges faced by the people? Create a poster using your 10 interesting points and share it with the class.
