2 22,000 mile wagon route to Oregon and the Pacific ocean OOver 400,000 Americans used this route (wasn’t exactly a lot of road options back then) WWe used to share the Oregon territory with the British but the increased US traffic there forced us to come to an agreement with the British over who gets what in 1846 OOregon would become a state in 1859

3 MMuch like North Carolina had a Gold Rush, California would later have a larger and more famous Gold Rush TThe discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley in early 1848 sparked the Gold Rush AAs news spread of the discovery, thousands of people traveled to San Francisco and the surrounding area BBy the end of 1849, the non-native population of the California territory was some 100,000 (compared with the pre-1848 figure of less than 1,000). AA total of $2 billion worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush, which peaked in 1852.
