November 2004 Dorothy Stanley (Agere Systems) Update: AP Functional Description IETF Request –Need for AP Functional Definition –Motion to form IEEE 802.11 AP Functional Description Study Group approved May04, re-affirmed July04, approved by Excom July04 –Study Group recommended formation of an Ad-Hoc committee to develop text to include in the IEEE 802.11 standard, via the existing TGma revision process, rather than formation of a new Task Group APF Ad-Hoc Committee Formed September 2004 –Clarify distinction between AP function & AP device, including Enumerating AP abstract functional blocks within an AP device –Integration function description, Distribution System and its associated services (portal, ESS, etc.) description, include an example –Goal – Text included in March 05 TGma draft.

November 2004 Dorothy Stanley (Agere Systems) Additional Activities of Interest Wireless Network Management Study Group –Letter Ballot 72 recommends formation of a Task Group; Project Authorization Request (charter) in 04/537r8; –Address Station Management and AP MIB enhancements TGT - Wireless Performance Prediction TG –Developing a recommended practice TGr – Fast BSS Transition –Intra-subnet AP to AP transition –Proposals submitted, to be discussed next week.
