Do-Now: 1) What times can you park if there is NO PARKING from 1pm- 3pm? 2) How can we write this using an inequality?
2
Objective: To solve a given compound inequality.
3
2.5 Notes: Compound Inequalities When two inequalities are combined into one statement, the result is called a COMPOUND INEQUALITY (The words AND & OR are used to describe the relationship.)
4
Type 1: OR Inequalities How they work: a.) Solve both inequalities separately b.) Graphs are pointed in different directions.
5
Examples: Solve and Graph 1) 6x -3
6
Examples: Solve and Graph 2) 3x 5
7
Examples: Solve and Graph 3) 2x + 1 > 13 OR –x + 5 > -5
8
Try these- solve & Graph: A.)3y -5 5 B.) 4c+3 ≤ -5 OR C-8 > -1
9
Write the sentence as an “OR” inequality 4) A number d is fewer than -6 or no less than -3 5) A number x is greater than -8 or less than or equal to -25
10
Write an OR inequality given the graph 6)
12
Do Now Solve and Graph. 1) x > 5 or x ≥ 7 2) x < 9 or x ˃ -6
13
Type 2: AND Inequalities!! How they work: a) Solve separate/ Solve using 3 pieces b) B) Graph has solutions bounded between two values.
14
Examples: Solve and Graph A. -5 < 3x + 7 and 4x < 20
15
Examples: Solve and Graph B. -6 < 2x + 4 and 3x < 6
16
Examples: Solve and Graph C. -2 < 5x + 8 < 18
17
Examples: Solve and Graph D. -7 < 3x + 2 < 8
18
Write an “AND Inequality for each graph or sentence: E. F. You can park, p, after 3pm but not past 8pm
19
Try These-Solve & Graph: 1) 20 < 7x – 1 < 34 2) -12 < -2x + 8 < -4 3) b – 3 1 4) 5) A number g is no less than 5 and fewer than 23
