1. Station A: Siddhartha Gautama Questions 1-7

2. 1. Where and when was Siddhartha Gautama born?  Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini Garden over 2,500 years ago, in 623 BC to be exact.

3. 2. Who were Siddhartha’s parents? What social class or caste did they belong to?  His parents Queen Maha Maya and King Suddhadana. They were in the noble social class.

4. 3. Why did the wise men name the baby Siddhartha?  They named him Siddhartha because it meant wish fulfilled and because they thought he was going to be either a great king or Buddha.

5. 4. How did the bird carrying the worm affect Siddhartha?  It made him think of unhappy situations of creatures which were killed by other creatures.

6. 5. How did Siddhartha’s upbringing influence his religious ideas and cause him to search for answers?  He learned about old age on his first trip. He learned about sickness on his second trip. He learned about death on his third trip. He learned about peace on his fourth trip. All these events made him question the meaning of human life.

7. 6. How did Siddhartha’s life change after he ventured out of the royal palace?  He had become aware of the troubles and worries of the daily lives of his people.

8. 7. How did Siddhartha try to find answers once he had left the palace? He searched around India and asked many priests and people known for their wisdom, yet they had not been able to give a convincing answer.
