Data Analysis

Data Analysis Discussion 1.Why are graphs, tables, and charts important? 2.What are the different ways in which you can represent data?

Bar Graph A bar graph uses bars of different heights to represent data. The lengths of the bars tell you the number or amount in each category.

Bar Graph

Circle Graphs A circle graph shows a set of data as a circle divided into regions. It helps you compare parts to a whole.

Circle Graph

Double Bar Graphs Shows two bars, each representing a different set of data. A key is usually given to identify what each bar represents.

Double Bar Graph

Frequency Tables A frequency table is a chart used to summarize the number of times something happens in an interval.

Frequency Table

Line Plots A line plot uses X’s or other symbols to show information on a number line.

Line Plot

Stem and Leaf Plot Data is arranged by place value. They are usually used when there are large amounts of numbers to analyze. Series of scores on sports teams, series of temperatures or rainfall over a period of time, series of classroom test scores are examples of when Stem and Leaf Plots could be used.

Stem and Leaf Plot

Line Graphs A line graph uses points connected by line segments to show data. It is most useful for showing how data changes over time.

Line Graph

Scatter Plots Scatter plots show how much one variable affects another variable.

Scatter Plot

Histograms Histograms graph groups of numbers according to how often they appear.

Histogram

Box and Whisker Plots A box and whisker plot displays data so you can easily see where most of the numbers are, based on medians.

Box and Whisker Plot
