4 Author Introduction (credibility) Bud, Not Buddy is Christopher Curtis’ second novel. The story is based upon his two grandfathers’ experiences growing up during the depression. The themes are based upon the author’s research on the thirties and the United Auto Workers Union strikes that took place in Michigan during the time as well. Christopher Paul Curtis

6 Discussion Why is he a foster child? What happened to his parents? Has his experience in foster homes been good? What do you think will happen in his next foster home with the Amos family? How does Bud feel about his friend Jerry? What will happen to Jerry?
