2 Literature Review Main Idea: TPE 12Supporting Evidence: Responsible for student academic outcomes Aware of own personal values and biases and recognize ways in which these values and biases affect the teaching and learning of students Appropriately manage professional time spent in teaching responsibilities to ensure that academic goals are met Understand and honor legal and professional obligations to protect the privacy, health, and safety of students, families, and other school professionals “You are the determiner of success n your classroom. You make this possible, not only by what you do, but more importantly through your positive attitude and your strong affirmation of children. It is your relationship ability that can and should make a difference in their lives” (Wong & Wong, p. 320, 2009). “Teachers, not programs, produce student achievement” (p. 325). School environment is safe, caring, and focused (p.329) Students, parents, and teachers work together to create the culture of the school, recognizing legal and professional obligations (p.330).

3 Literature Review Main Idea: TPE 13Supporting Evidence: Improve teaching practices by soliciting feedback and engaging in cycles of planning, teaching, reflecting, discerning problems, and applying new strategies Use reflection and feedback to formulate and prioritize goals for increasing subject matter knowledge and teaching effectiveness Develop plans for professional growth in subject matter knowledge and pedagogy Access resources such as feedback from professionals, professional organizations, and research describing teaching, learning, and public “A professional educator is someone who, without prompting, supervision, or regulation, has an ongoing growth plan to achieve competence and strives continuously to raise the level of each new group of students” (Wong & Wong, p. 301, 2009). It is important to remember that you are both a teacher and a learner who continues to grow professionally each new year (p. 321). “The effective teacher thinks, reflects, and implements” (p. 301) Teachers need to work in teams in order to greater benefit their practice and their students achievement (p. 335)
