Types of Science Pure scienceApplied science Pure science is manmade. It is motivated out of science. There is no immediate impact on humanity. Example: faster cars, taller buildings, heat resistance materials. Applied science helps humanity immediately. Example: vaccines, antibiotics.
3
Inference An inference is logic. Example: we drive cars to get places faster, people get jobs to get money.
4
Fair tests A fair tests is a fair and respected tests.
5
Variables IV: (Independent variable ) is what you the experimenter changes. DV: (Dependant variable) is what changes as a result to the experiment. CV: (Constant variable) stays the same.
6
Observations An observation is what you notice. Example: I notice that half the class it wearing black. I notice that its cloudy outside.
7
Conclusions Conclusion is an summary of the experiment.
8
Graphs Line graphBar graph An line graph is when u deal with time. An bar graph is when you do not deal with time.
9
Statements QualitativeQuantitative Has no numbers. Example: that tree has a lot of apples in it. There are a lot of cars in the parking lot. Has numbers. Example: those 3 flowers has 6 petals. There is 15 fish in that pond.
10
Mean: is the average. You add the numbers together then divide by the amount of numbers. Example – 2+2+2+2=8/ 4= 2 Median: the middle number. Example – (1234567) 4 would be the middle number. Mode: most repeated numbers. Example – (12234) 2 would be the most repeated number.
11
Hypothesis Theory An hypothesis is an educated guess that is tested with your experiment. Example: If I put the ice cube outside then it will melt faster. Is when an experiment has been tested for many times by different scientist and the results stay the same so it the scientific community they will call this a theory.
12
Control groupExperimental group An control group doesn’t change in stays the same. An experimental group does change.
